Something that’s always puzzled me. Why have they been so slow in selling Simpsons Video’s or DVD’s.I mean were on what season 13/14? now and they’ve still only got as far as Season3
Any other popular show like ‘Enterprise’, ‘The soprano’s’ "6 feet under’ , ‘Buffy’ ,etc ,etc; get released very quickly but not the Simpsons.
Why not? I mean can you imagine how much money they’d make, but they seem strangely reluctant. Anyone know why?
In the UK we seem to get a lot of shows, like Futurama and Buffy on DVD before the US, even though UK releases typically have translations into multiple European languages which must take additional time. So I’m assuming that the companies have good reason to delay these things.
My wild guess would be that it is due to syndication and other moneys that can be made from sale of the show. If something is out on DVD, people are potentially less likely to watch it on TV, so TV networks are less likely to buy the rights to show it, meaning that the production companies have to balance their revenues from different sources. The Simpsons still seems to get vast amounts of viewers for reruns in the UK and I think it’s similar in the USA, and the makers may not want to cut off that source of money just to get DVD sales which may be much smaller.
(insert comma after Buffy to make slightly more sense)
Still, there’s a moral imperative here.
