The Simpsons Movie review thread (Spoilers)

I loved it. I was a casual watcher, haven’t watched in a long time though… maybe that’s why I liked it.

While some of the story did feel familiar even to me, I gave it a pass (maybe since it wasn’t SUCH a re-tread for me; being a casual watcher).

It’s a good, 90-minute movie that made me laugh a few times. Worth the $12 or whatever it cost me.

I liked it, too. Some truly laugh out loud moments, including Ralphs GENIUS “I like men now.”

Just tripple left click in the spoiler box and all will be revealed. No need to drag anything anywhere.

I noticed the same thing, no Kang even though he’s in the credits. And I stayed around for all the credits. After the last ~5 minute stretch of Korean animator names (not that there’s anything wrong with that), the ending bit was not worth sitting through all the credits for.

The movie itself was great, it wasn’t a whole lot different that the TV show (in fact Homer makes a joke about that at the beginning of the movie), but it was interesting seeing The Simpsons with a big audience, a lot of gags got bigger laughs than I would have expected. Everything looked different and more vibrant too with the extra shadowing and shading. Widescreen was nice as well, there are a couple of scenes that I’m looking forward to slow-motioning on DVD.

Oh, and seeing Bart’s wang was very disturbing, although the way they showed it was surprising and hilarious.

Contains 60% recycled footage.

As to the general level of quality, I would say that its laughs-per-minute was maybe 5% lower than the very best normal episodes. But that’s still darn good on any absolute scale, and (given that it’s much longer than a normal episode) a much higher number of total laughs.

I just thought of something: Given that the family was at The Itchy and Scratchy Movie does this mean that Bart won’t grow up to be Chief Justice of the Supreme Court?

It could have been an Itchy and Scratchy sequel, and Bart just never saw the original until after he became Chief Justice.

How about signage?

Any good stuff in there (Think “Sneed’s Feed & Seed - formerly Chuck’s”) ??

It must be tough with no pause button!

A sign fan eh? I only remember 1 or 2 of the church signs.

At one point, the church marquee said “We told you so.” Oh, and there was a tavern in Alaska called “Eski-Moe’s.”

When the dome is placed on Springfield, Marge is seen knitting a sign reading “Dome Sweet Dome.” Later, when they move to Alaska, she’s knitting a sign reading “Nome Sweet Nome.”

You’ve touched on the two reasons to see it in the theater, rather than wait until it comes out on DVD: seeing it with a crowd, and the improvement over the TV show in the way everything looked. For example, we’ve seen angry mobs before, but the one in the movie was bigger and fierier and I’m glad I got to see it on the big screen.

There was another when they were arguing about a time that was something like:

It was at 4:00.

No, it was at 7, Access Hollywood was on.

Access Hollywood is on at 4 and 7!

A nerdy complaint now: why do Marge and Homer have a wedding video? They got married at Shotgun Pete’s Wedding Chapel with Marge five or six months pregnant with Bart. The video isn’t from their second wedding because Homer still has hair and Marge has the shorter hairdo.

I noticed that too. I don’t remember if Marge is pregnant in the video, but they could have had a small event with family after the actual wedding.

Lame, soulless, slick garbage. Regurgitated jokes, pointless characters and subplots. Lisa’s love interest? WTF? How long did it take to write this piece of crap?
Eskie Moe’s? Come on! And this is one of the most popular films ever. I suppose I should just post this in the Pit but I thought it was a terrible, unfunny, barely entertaining mess and I want my money and my time back!

I read a review where the author confessed that (s)he didn’t know what a “nome” was:

Heh.

It’s a style of house in Old Mexico.

Don’t forget the other bar. “A Hard Place.”
