The Simpsons, 'Two Bad Neighbors' and a Chard of Paper.

I have been an avid watcher of the Simpsons literally right from the start. And I am not just talking about the series. I am one of the few people on these boards who still remembers the Tracy Ullman Show.

Anyways, the 13th episode of the 7th season is called “Two Bad Neighbors”. And it details the tension that develops when ex-President Bush I moves into the Simpsons’ neighborhood. Bart, acting the part of a modern-day Dennis the Menace, starts harassing Mr. Bush in his garage, just as he finishes his memoirs. A run away motor boat propeller runs amok in the garage, finally shredding Bush’s first draft. Here is the thing that has literally vexed me for years. When the shreds spew up in the air, for a brief moment, a single chard of the papers, with words on it briefly visible for only a split second, comes into view. I have never been able to read what it says. I try slowing it down with my dvr–and even with my old vcr, always to no avail. And I really feel cheated, because I know I am missing a good joke too.

Do any of you have any idea of what I am talking about? And do any of you know what the note says? (I would do a Google search. But I just don’t know how to parse this one.)

Thank you in advance to all who reply, and try to find an answer to this question:).

I remember that episode. I don’t remember chards of any kind, however; did you perhaps mean shard?

You may be in luck; I’ll think I might have that one on tape. I’ll take a look and get back to you.

The site www.snpp.com has loads of Simpsons stuff. According to them the episode is actually number 9 in series 7 and the paper says:

      ______________ __
    / V.P. Quayle ca\/t|
    | t embarrassment /
    \ ---------------/

Edited to add: No, you were right. It was episode 13. The numbering system screwed me up.

I made some screenshots from the DVD.

Well, so much for that. I found the tape, and can confirm that the paper in question says what Lord Mondegreen above said.

The URL has been changed - it is now www.simpsonsarchive.com. The old SNPP.com address may not work for much longer. (Long story involving the previous webmaster not wanting to host the site any longer, but wanting to keep the snpp.com name for some reason.)

:dubious:

I was thinking the same thing. It wasn’t that long ago.

It was a hanging chard.

I remember watching the Tracy Ullman Show only for the Simpsons.

Is it sad or impressive that I knew this off the top of my head? I have this season on DVD and actually paused it so I could read it.

I dunno, guys, this dude might be in his 30s or something. Go to bed, grandpa!

Is the OP a ghost writer?

I remember having a friend over and sitting down to watch Tracy Ullman just to show him that “funny burping family” cartoon, only to be utterly disappointed when they had some other lame animated segment in that episode.

I really wish they’d put out a season 0 dvd collecting these. I know you can find bootlegs on the internets, but I want an official release.

Get off my lawn before I have to yell at clouds!
