The Sims 2 Won't Enable Mods...

We’ve are trying to transfer Sims 2 mod files from our PC to our laptop by copying the EA Downloads files from the Documents folder. The mods files show up where they should be but the game does not give the option to Enable Custom Content so it seems they are not being recognized. We think there may be a pre-requisite program that is needed - can anyone tells us what we should be doing? Thank you.

We tried downloading a mod right off the Net into the Downloads folder & even though it shows in the folder, it does not appear in the game when we enable custom content.

I’m not sure if you’re still having problems but have you tried the Body Shop trick?

Thanks! We have not! I will let you know how it works!

Good luck! I hope it works out for you.

Did you go to the game options and turn functionality so that it will ask if you want to enable custom content every time you start the game? After you do that (and enable it), you should be able to turn off the ask option and have it be on, I think.

More specific here, as I realized I wasn’t very clear earlier. Once you go into neighborhood view, click on “game options” and then check the “on” radio button under “display custom content dialog at startup.” Then exit the game and re-enter and you should get the option to enable/disable custom content.

If you’re thinking this is really obvious and of course you did it - sorry; I just find it so easy to forget something like that, since I generally set it once when I install and then never think of it again.

We haven’t been able to get the time to do the Body Shop trick, but I did want to clarify -
the dialogue never even comes up. That’s the problem. Thanks.

OK, we can’t even find The Body Shop file. Is it necessary for running mods?

Another thing I’m too idiotic to have mentioned is that we couldn’t install the disk manually. We’ve had some really bizarre problems with our drive reading the disk. At first it read the disk without problem, but wouldn’t install all the way. Same with the expansions. Once it got to the updating portion, it wouldn’t go further and would then uninstall itself. After this, the drive no longer reads the disks. We’ve never had this happen before, it’s bizarre. We started using a program called Daemon Lite to make a digital copy of the disks, and were able to install the base game with this, however it wont copy the first disk of any of the expansion packs for some bizarre reason.

At this point we cannot get any of the expansions installed (any help with this would be greatly appreciated).

Now we can’t find the Body Shop in any of our folders. A search found it but said it was damaged and asked to delete the shortcut, and it accidentally got deleted.

So now we need to find a reputable program and install the program to wherever it needs to go.

How it ended- Called EA Games who helped install free The Sims 2 set, in which all the proper things showed up & let us access the mods. Thanks to everyone for the help.

I’m glad it worked out for you in the end.
