The thread title took me back to 1967, Catholic High School and Sister Mary Corona…
Sort of a confession here – I’m a big fan of gothic rock, gothic metal, and gothic new wave, and I’ve followed the genre as it’s progressed from The Cure to Type O Negative to Lacuna Coil…but during all these years, I’ve never bothered to seek out anything by Sisters of Mercy. I’ve known of their existence, and their importance, and I did like the few songs I heard by them (“Walk Away”, “Black Planet”, etc.) but it was literally just a few months ago that I got around to buying their greatest hits album. Great stuff, I don’t know why it took me so long to check them out.
Yay! I feel so not-alone! Charley, that’s a great story.
Have any of you ever read the webcomic Nice Hair? The premise is that Neil Gaiman, Tim Burton, and Robert Smith are all roommates, but Andrew makes an appearance. The site is not well designed but the archive page is here. Andrew first shows up in “Scuba Diving”, I think.
The only nice thing my stepsister ever did for me was give me all her goth clothes and Sisters tapes. Floodlands just makes me think of the great fun me and the other 3 deathrockers in 1990’s Grand Junction, CO had driving around at night, going to the Fruita cemetary, and generally goofing off. Good times.
I’m off to go dance to Lucretia, My Reflection with my cat!
