Well I say this to any non-Americans reading this, there are a *shit-ton of us that are shocked that we can’t… and even more so that his base is OK with this doddering, pathetic, ineffectual, pathological lying asshole.

I have been apologizing since the election … and I have been a registered Republican since 1979, when I turned 18. I respond to people who ask why the hell I stay Republican with a simple answer - as a Republican, I am entitled to vote in restricted pollings, so at least there is one tiny voice crying out FUCK NO in the wilderness. I may not be able to sway an entire polling my way, but at least I have stood up to be counted as dissenting.

Yeah, I don’t know if switching parties will make any difference. The Republican purity test has evolved from “you need to support these conservative positions” to “you need to support any position that the Democrats wont” to “you need to support Trump’s positions.”

If the Republican party is to get back to sane, effective, compromising governing they are going to have to change (back) from within. They need some strong dissenting voices in the party, but evidently, those with principles seem to be getting run-out of the party, and it seems there are plenty of people passing the current purity test standard that are ready to take their place, sadly.

A few of us are still hanging on with our fingernails, trying to indicate by vote that not all Republicans worship at the feet of Trump …

It’s occurred to me how weird it is that Obama is bracketed by George W Bush and Donald Trump. After everyone seemed to agree that GWB was the worst president ever, the Republican base seemed to say, “Well, we can beat that.”

The first thing the founders got wrong was to not anticipate parties. Then they made the only way to get rid of a president was to convict him of high crimes, rather than stupid policies. If impeachment could be for non-criminal poor performance, it could be easier. But requiring 2/3 of a senate that takes 6 years to renew itself was the height of poor foresight. At least the House changes every two years. So yes, the FF got lots wrong. It is virtually impossible to imagine a successful conviction even after impeachment.

And we need to get that amended, but unfortunately those that would need to push the ammendment don’t want to rock their [gravy] boat …

The House refers Impeachment proceedings to the Senate ala a grand jury. Therefore, the “impeachment” and the “conviction” are all the same thing.

They are not the same thing. Impeachment is the process of bringing charges, conviction is determining guilt of those charges. Impeachment is like indictment in a criminal proceeding.

I can respect someone who has a well thought out position in favor of conservative fiscal policy, strong military spending, reducing “entitlements”, and pretty much any traditionally conservative position. Hell, I can even understand and somewhat respect folk who have ignorant, knee-jerk positions along those lines. What I CAN’T understand or respect, is someone who maintains that Trump is anything other than an embarrassment.

I guess - as some have said - I should be happy he is such an idiot, because if he was clever, he could REALLY be dangerous. But it is quite amazing having such a fool driving the bus. God, I hope we are collectively competent enough to avoid giving him 4 more years…
