The St. Louis Cardinals Choke/Houston Astros Comeback Thread

Wow, for a while there it looked like the NL Central might be won by a .500 team  .

Yeah, that sucks. This year, the NL has been just wacked by the AL, pulling a significant number of wins out of the league.

The Cards just won again, leaving the tentative Tuesday tie-breaker as the Astros only hope this season. I’m going to be a Braves fan tonight.

Too bad. The Astros won 5-4.

The big question now, will Carpenter start for the Cardinals on Sunday, on Monday, or will LaRussa rest him for the playoffs and hope for the best?

The situation is now this; if St. Louis loses tomorrow and Houston wins, St. Louis will be only one half game ahead and will have to play their makeup game against the Giants to determine if they tie with Houston or not. If they win the makeup game they win the division outright; if they lose it they play a 163rd game, against Houston, to decide the division.

But either a Cardinal win or Astro loss on Sunday puts St. Louis in the playoffs.

Thank you Braves.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Oh well. There’s always next year!

And sends them limping into the post-season where they will be man-handled. I’m hoping the Dodgers get them. At least then we’ll be able to improve on our one playoff game win since 1988.

With all due respect, the Cards were 7-0 against the Dodgers this season. Maybe that’s who we need to face now, instead of the Pads.

Sorry, the Padres won the West - so they get the Cardinals, and the Dodgers get the also-hurting Mets.

That’s just what they want you to think! This whole season has all been a clever ploy by the Cardinals to get the rest of baseball to underestimate them. Then they will take the postseason by storm when nobody expects them to. Their chief weapon is surprise… surprise and nice red uniforms…

And if they manage to make it to the World Series, they will have the dubious distinction of being the worst team to make the Series since the 1973 New York Mets finished at 83-79. If they should WIN the Series, they would break the record for the worst team to win a World Series. That record is currently held by the 1987 Minnesota Twins, who finished 85-77. So come on Redbirds, make this less than stellar season worthwhile!
