"The Stand Part 3: The Betrayal"

Hi Everybody -
Are you watching Part 3 of “The Stand” mini-series today?

I watched it last night.

It’s unfortunate but the show is moving along at a really brisk clip. They have a lot of ground to cover, but they are not conveying the passage of time well at all. And Harold’s whole storyline for the FAIL.

Stephen King had his cameo in this ep.

I watched it, too. In fact, my wife and I finished part 4 also(but I’ll save my thoughts).

Yeah, I have not read the book. This feels incredibly rushed because they do not convey how long these events take place over. I know the date is frequently shown, but it doesn’t feel like it is taking place over a very long time at all.

I have a feeling the book is far superior.

I probably watched the miniseries 10 times before I actually read the book. The book is far superior - but it’s also a very enjoyable read even if you know what the story is from the mini. I highly recommend it. (There’s an extended version out there, which is great - a lot more Trashcan Man stuff is in there.

The book is indeed better, but I think they did an okay job, considering the scope of what they were trying to put on screen. I believe they are trying to make a movie of “The Stand” now - that will REALLY be rushed.

I didn’t like Laura San Giacomo for Nadine Cross because she just didn’t look right to me, but watching it again, I think she did a very good job of portraying her version of Nadine. It just isn’t Stephen King’s version.

I agree- I think acting-wise, she does a better job than some others but she’s definitely not the book version of Nadine. I can understand why they combined the characters of Nadine and Rita, but the mini-series version has much more Rita than makes sense. You don’t see what Larry might see in her. The real Nadine was definitely someone he might be tempted to leave Lucy for but this Nadine is fairly easy to tell her to get lost.

Did the mini-series establish that Nadine was a virgin? I thought she seemed a bit skanky. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought I read on Wikipedia that Nadine was saving herself for marriage and that Flagg raped her…which would really explain her ending better.

Nadine hasn’t ended yet - this is only the third part of four. Yes, she has said to Harold that she is a virgin, and yes, she is saving herself for Flagg. She is promised to Flagg (but she doesn’t know who promised her).

My bad. I didn’t mean to spoil anything. I wasn’t thinking.

:smack:

I don’t think there’s anyone in these threads who isn’t re-watching or hasn’t read the books, but I’m trying (sort of) to serialize it. No worries.
