The Stars are Still Alive, Let's Make a Sequel!

Bugsy Malone

A gangster film and a musical, where all the stars were kids. Made in 1976. Not surprisingly, they all still seem to be with us (including Michael Jackson, who isn’t THAT Michael Jackson). Director Alan Parker is still around, too.

No Joanie. No Al or Arnold.

I hear that Fonzie teaches acting in LA.

When are we going to see Buckaroo Banzai vs. the World Crime League?

Mel Brooks is dead, so we can pretty much forget about History of the World Part 2. :frowning:

Since when is Mel Brooks dead?

He’s going to be around until he can do The 2,000 Year Old Man for real.

Thought I heard he was on the radio a while ago. Must have been thinking of somebody else.

Come on, Mel! Don’t tease us! HotWP2!

Still alive, though he hasn’t directed a movie in 24 years, so it’s unlikely to happen anyway.

For whatever reason, several members of the movie cast have outlived their successors in the television series. Rene Auberjonois, Robert Duvall, Elliot Gould, and Carl Gottlieb are all alive while William Christopher, Larry Linville, Wayne Rogers, and John Orchard have died. Roger Bowen also outlived McLean Stevenson but only by a single day. Harry Morgan and David Ogden Stiers have also died but they played characters who weren’t in the movie.

It’s a TV show but they could definitely do American Gothic (1995) and the world would be a better place if they did. (Says I.)

The premise was the demonic Sheriff Buck (played by Gary Cole: Still alive and working) battling for the soul of young boy Caleb (played by Lucas Black: Still alive and working.) Having Buck directly battling the now adult Caleb would be very doable. Black could even be the character he plays in NCIS: New Orleans - A law enforcement officer. Leaves NCIS and returns home to Trinity and resumes clashing with Sheriff Buck…

In the original **Buck mainly battled with the Doctor played by Jake Weber who is still alive and working. The newspaper reporter played by Paige Turco who is still alive and working. Plus the ghost of Caleb’s sister played by Sarah Paulson who is still alive and working. If her character, Merlyn, having aged is a problem - what with her being a ghost - then digitally de-age her and disguise any limitations in an eerie blue ‘ghost’ special effect. No problem. Although I would portray her at her natural age. TV ghosts have their own rules!

Buck’s evil schoolteacher ally was played by Brenda Bakke and his incompetent deputy was played by Nick Searcy. Both are still alive and working.

The series was created by Shaun Cassidy and produced by Sam Raimi. Both alive and working…

Why isn’t this happening?

TCMF-2L

It looks like Lawrence Kasdan and all the principle actors from *The Big Chill *are still around. How are the ex-hippies getting on these days? Did May Kay Place have that child she wanted? The kid would be 30-something now.

I saw the thread title, and that it was CalMeacham, and started thinking “A sequel to The Stars are Alive?” Was that a movie, or a book? Asimov maybe?

Sadly, no. (Although it would be a good alternate title for Frank Herbert’s Whipping Star)

Maybe I’ll write something with that as a title one of these days.

I like this.

The entire cast of WKRP in Cincinnatti is alive! I would watch a remake.

Mr. Carlson is no longer with us…

They did do a remake. Nobody watched it. Well, not as many as needed to keep it running for very long.

Note that Jan Smithers at 70 is the youngest of the survivors.

Just for the hell of it, I’d like to see Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito team up again. Most people would want to see a Twins II, but I’m partial to a remake of Junior, which ended with Schwarzenegger giving birth (what a setup for jumping ahead 25 years!) and which costarred Emma Thomson and Pamela Reed.

Or how about bringing Arnold back as Conan, this time in a Lion in Winter story, with Grace Jones as his consort, and his children fighting over who will inherit his domain.

YES! We all need more Henry Winkler in out lives. I would love seeing the Fronz having turned into someone like Winkler’s recent characters.

Like Riverdale, Power Rangers, and the Banana Splits remakes, let’s make it dark and edgy: Happy Days: Chuck Returns!

Please, please, please could we have Jennifer Tilly as his bride?
