The Starving Artist plan to restore America to its former glory!

I agree. Mainly because it came from you.

Why? I think we have all the information we need on your opinion.

Really, i’d say that it isn’t particularly difficult to go around saying whatever even if you’re wearing a uniform. I don’t think it makes it more difficult at all. I think this is a mistake of cause and effect - responsible adults are known for wearing a shirt and smart clothes, so if we make kids wear them, they’ll become more responsible (or at least feel too much like an idiot to mouth off too much) - but really i’d say after a period of adjustment it really wouldn’t make any difference. Besides, a shirt can be untucked and buttons undone pretty easily. As someone who had a school uniform (including jacket and tie), I can assure you that kids who are going to act out are going to do so even in the most respectable of outfits.

The problem is that such things require interest. It’s easy to alter the behaviour of people who are interested in change; it’s very difficult to alter the behaviour of people who have no interest in what you’re selling, which in this case is pretty much the case. Encourage good things, and you’re as likely to instigate the opposite in order to rebel. People will go to great lengths, even hurting themselves, in order to spite someone who seeks to make them do something they don’t want to. It’s just something that’s uncontrollable, which i’d say is pretty much a good thing.

I’d say the problem in this case is possibly unique to Starving Artist; someone without his history and general known persona on the boards might well get a good debate going out of “What things of past society would be worth retaining/going back to?”. But SA’s views being, well, rather extreme mean that the inevitable argument to anything conservative is multiplied beyond reason. At least in part, that people are so willing to jump on him and overblow his statements is because his own position is pretty hyperbolic and incendiary itself. Each side is making errors; a good comparison is his own extremely frequent bringing up of the idea that others believe that all those things he feels were worthy about the time were necessary to get rid of in order to improve those things that weren’t. The poor rephrasing of other’s arguments really isn’t restricted to one side in this case. Which is a shame, really.

This Machine Kills Fascists.

THANK YOU! I have been trying to remember that for days. I knew it was on some show, but I thought it was Alan Freed.

“Its the Hammer of Justice! It’s the Bell of Freedom, its the song about the love between by brothers and my sisters, all over this land.”

Still gets me. Yeah, I know, I’m a sucker for stuff about justice, freedom and love. So sue me.

People who bust caps in asses and call women bitches and hos generally don’t care if their shirts are tucked in.

Where is the pit thread for Der Tris, demeaning him and his ideology in the same way as the ‘intellectual liberals’ do here?

Oh my apologies for the disruption, do carry on with the elitist snobbery.

You want to see a Pit thread on him? Open it up your damn self, you lazy bastard.

You got a keyboard. Knock yourself out.

Isn’t that the trouble with kids these days? Won’t do it for themselves, wait for some liberal snob to do it for them.

Starving Artist, do you feel that there’s any hope for America’s future?

We’re all doomed, just like we’ve all been doomed ever since the first ape fell out of a tree and started walking upright. And it’s always the fault of some other “them”.

Exactly! Remeber that Reeder guy? That guy got nothing but fawning respect from all them mean old libruls!

Man, remember when all the rightards would at least pretend they weren’t total pussies?

Did you by any chance search for Der Trihs pit threads?

Because a simple search for “trihs” in Pit thread titles leads to 18 threads complaining about him and his idealogy. Those are just the ones that mention him by name in the title. The smallest thread is but 2 pages long, and for the most part they look like quite lengthy threads. So I suppose the answer to your question is, “They’ve been around, repeatedly, and there are far more of them than there are ones about Starving Artist(of whom a similar search turns up 6 Pit threads)”.

If you want, the search tab is just up there; it’s the fifth item along on the upper board taskbar, with a little arrow. “Advanced Search” should get you what you’re looking for quite easily.

My point being, of course, that I wouldn’t deign stoop so low…

This made me laugh, out loud.

Me too.

Story goes, the original 1949 version written by Pete Seeger and Lee Hayes had it “…love between all of my brothers…”. It was the later group, with Paul Stookey and Peter Yarrow, who gave it the modern and more inclusive “…my brothers and my sisters…” phrasing in 1966.

Yeah, we and our ilk really did destroy America, didn’t we?

I would like to thank you for the information. Everyone starts out not understanding, some learn on their own and some have helpful people show them the way. I know this doesn’t fit well into the pit, but I like when someone is willing to help newbies.

And they’re not going to Charter Schools which are usually hard to get into.
