The Statler Brothers - greatest quartet of all?

I find the Statler Brothers to be imminently listenable. I can listen to their stuff for hours, be it secular or gospel. I just love those guys. Of course, I’m pretty eclectic, too, and find a lot of individual songs by other artists easy on the repetition, such as Doby Gray’s “Drift Away,” but none of them stand up to the listenability of the Statler Brothers for me.

This got me wondering, what do other Dopers think of the Statler Brothers? Greatest quartet in our lifetimes to-date? Of course, I’m speaking to folks who like that type of music - not those who can’t stand country music and the like in general…

So, what’s the consensus? Do they stand up? Are there other quartets that stand up just as well? Is there a vocal quartet you think is actually better? Drop in your $.02 here!

Greatest Quartet? Maybe in an alternate universe in which aliens erased all record of The Mills Brothers, The Ink Spots, and The Ravens.

The Statlers’ music is good, but it’s the variety material and stand-up on their show that sets them apart, I think. But I only ever get to watch them at Gramma’s house.

I’m partial to the GREATEST BARBERSHOP QUARTET EVER TO EXIST. That quartet is, of course, The Gashouse Gang.
