We’ve seen all of these yearly polls on various songs and albums all autumn long, and we just had another travesty of a vote for the “real” R & R HoF, so the interest does seem to be there. Replies in this thread will help to further demonstrate that of course.
The next question then becomes what format do we choose for the vote. I hereby suggest that the only thing we’ll borrow from the other voting process is that “artists will become eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their first record.” But we’ll “hold” the election in the original year, not 25 years later, which simply means that anyone who released their first work less than 25 years ago won’t be eligible (yet). If we get “caught up” by the end of 2015 say, then only those who released anything in 1990 or earlier would be eligible for the election in that year. Then we do it again after New Year’s for 1991, rinse repeat the year after that.
We’ll then have a nomination thread-one person will nominate an artist…and then should we require just one “yea” from another poster, or some other number? 2? 3?
Then we’ll put all of the nominees into a poll, which will be set to close 7 days later, public option, multiple choice. I’d prefer to not have any firm limit on either the number of nominees or number of inductees-if the Almighty decided that in one year we have 6 reasonable candidates, and in another only 3, then so be it.
I’ll also suggest that the threshold for election be the 75% mark that we have in the baseball hall.
Any other concerns? What year should we start in? [1955?] Should that be subject to a poll as well?
Since it was my idea, I’ll be glad to run the thing.
