Well, I’ve just read part one of the duology, and I’m impressed. Jacqueline Carey did amazing work with her Kushiel series, but this is a wholly different book. Not nearly as graphic, it’s more of a twisted take on classic fantasy conventions.
The basic premise is, what if Melkor (and all of his clones, like Torak, Azash, etc.) were actually the good guys? What if the exiled God that dwells alone is the one betrayed by all of his brothers? What if the ‘divine messengers’(Gandalf and his ilk) are assassins sent to destroy the Dark God, who wants nothing more than to be left alone? And what if the God’s evil lieutenants are actually good men with their own noble reasons for serving the darkness?
It’s insane. I can’t wait to get to part 2, but wanted to know if anyone else had read it.
No spoilers, please.
