The Super Bowl Commercial Thread

I had just the opposite reaction - imagine it with the genders reversed…it never would have made it on air.

Luckily, I also don’t remember what was being advertised, 'cause spousal abuse is not a good way to get me to buy the product.

BTW, is it just me, or does anyone else find the Linux kid incredibly creepy?

My best friend’s immediate reaction upon seeing that kid was “Aauugggh! Village of the Damned! Village of the DAMNED!!!

So no, it wasn’t just you.

I have to give it up for the FedEx alien.

Especially the delayed pay-off in the camera work and the punch lines. You’ve got alien’s-eye view, then a front view (kind of silly), then a side view of a giant carnivorous alien wearing a cardboard mask (hysterical). Add well-timed dialogue, and this one gets two thumbs up.

As an engineer, I watched the roof of that convertible Chevy and immediately thought, “is that revolutionary and amazingly futuristic mechanism still going to be working (and not leaking) ten years from now?” And then I thought, “Oh yeah - Chevies don’t last ten years.”

And, as a pesky aside, I would love to kick Robert Plant (or is it Jimmy Page?) in the kneecap. He holds out for years, insisting Led Zeppelin’s music is too good to be used in movie soundtracks, let alone television commercials… and then, after making a very well-thought-out exception for Cameron Crowe’s “Almost Famous,” lets Cadillac get in line second? I love “Rock and Roll” as much as anyone, but that is not a song I would ever associate with the Cadillac brand.

He reminds me of a young Eminem.

I liked the farting horse the best. Those iTunes commercials, however, left me cold. It felt like I was watching an anti-drug ad.
