It is with a great distress within my bowels that I feel I must begin this thread. The semi-esteemed The Flying Dutchman started a thread pitting the higher-esteemed Tamerlane. You can read through the assorted sorted messages here.
Now in that thread, The Flying Dutchman felt that Tamerlane misspoke or misused words or perhaps was slightly on the callous side of his actions described in the threadHuman-Animal Moral Code.
I feel so strongly about this issue that it could not be contained within this thread nor this thread.
Understandably, you may be confused on this issue. Which is why I suggest before reading any further of any of these three threads, you familiarize yourself with the the thread on cats and babies (a six page offshoot of the MPSIMS thread on cat adoption and the the six page pit bull thread again started by our dear The Flying Dutchman.
If, after reading these, you still don’t understand why I’m pitting the thread of the thread of the two threads of the other two threads, then you haven’t been reading enough. I suggest you look here and here for wikipedia information on pit bulls and cats, respectfully.
In fact, I feel so strongly about this that I don’t believe that this is the proper thread to state my beliefs. Rather than be accused of hijacking, I will start another thread that fully itemizes my beliefs and refutes all previous claims by the referenced miscreants, starting with the myth of parthenogenesis and ending with the overuse of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Neo-classical architecture will not be spared. There will be hamburger all over the highway. Coming soon to a Pit near you!
Getting the shits is no fun I agree. Have you seen a doctor?
Can you support the assertion that I’m even semi-esteemed ? I would feel so much better if you were right.
As it is, I was distressed by Tamerlane’s comment. However it was completely independant of the purposed nature of my moral code thread and the implication had nothing to do with a moral code towards animals and essentially I had a point to deal with that was betweem him and I. Let me point out that nine times out of ten I peruse a thread which has no relevance or interest for me and beyond that, of the relevant or interssting threads, I feel I have nothing to add to 90% of them so I don’t post. Whether or not I was harmed by Tamerlane is subject to critical review. But if you feel the need to start one more pit thread because you felt I didn’t need to start another of one of 23,000 pit threads, you won’t get another pit thread from me.
Okay. I’m on the record here as telling you all that I took the cat to an SPCA shelter.
But I do now see that pehaps maybe in the USA your animal shelters do not have a no- kill policy. My sister works dilligently in a nearby Vancouver Island community for the SPCA and I’m well aware of this policy. This cat in question was clearly adoptable, having had registered shots and being fixed, still young, good looking (healthy), and desirable. This organisation is the best way to find a new home.
Now I’ll add an additional real story(I don’t mind hyjacking this thread) because I don’t enjoy the scorn of animal lovers.
I had gotten a cardboard box from the SPCA to transport this cat to their facility in downtown Victoria, British Columbia. Unfortunately, the cat escaped in the car and when I was in the SPCA parking lot, the cat escaped into the immediate environment and disappeared. This I was told later is not an umcommon occurance because the immediate area was rife with ferral cats. I spent a total of two to three hours searching for this cat in a down town area with little hope of success, but finally found her. It took a considerable amount of time to cajole this cat into my arms and present her to the SPCA. The welfare of this cat, even though I didn’t want it was extremely important to me. So there.
Well, he can respectfully suggest that we look at A and B, [resented respectively in the links. The original statement is ambiguous enough to warrant giving him the benefit of the doubt.
I mean, as long as we’re being so atypically polite for a fucking Pit thread!!
Tamerlane made a parenthetical remark in a pit thread which The Flying Dutchman misinterpreted to mean that Tamerlane thought the Dutchman might have been lying about killing a cat. Rather than asking for clarification or addressing the issue in the thread itself, the Dutchman chose to open yet another pit thread (when he already had two going on the front page).
Ostensibly, the Dutchman’s motive was to protect his “reputation” (which as he himself realizes, isn’t all that good to begin with). Of course, by pitting a highly respected poster for a trivial and as it turns out entirely erroneous reason, he has opened himself to further ridicule, as per this thread.
Sorry if that’s more than 20 words. You can pit me for being overly verbose, if you choose.
This statement has given me the idea to propose a thought experiment, illustrating the uncertainty principle of quantum mechanics, entitled “The Flying Dutchman’s Cat”. Basically, until we open this thread, the cat is neither euthanized nor in a shelter, and thus exists in both states at once.
Hey, I bet nobody ever thought of anything like this before, right?
