The Ten Commandments of the D

The super, rockingest, most fuck-ass (and I mean that in a good way) band in the world, Tenacious D, has their own Commandments. Following suit, I invite you to list your own personal 10 Commandments to live by.

Regallag’s Comandments:

Comandment the First:
Kill any foes you have. Letting them live serves to do nothing but encourage them, and they will not likely make the same mistake.

Comandment the Second:
Weakness is to be crushed.

Comandment the Third:
Vitory over an unworthy foe proves nothing.

Comandment the Fourth:
Victory by dis-honorable means proves one’s own weakness.

Comandment the Fifth:
Where ever steel, blood and fire are present, so shall I be.

Comandment the Sixth:
Traitors shall receive niether pity nor mercy.

Comandment the Seventh:
Persue nothing short of total victory.

Comandment the Eigth:
Keep weapons ready at all times.

Comandment the Ninth:
Welcome the death of thine foes as well as the death of thine own self

Comandment the Tenth:
True peace comes only through victory.

I don’t have ten. I read something like this once; I don’t remember the exact wording, but I sure remember the spirit:

  1. The sun rises and sets in a day. When the sun sets, the world should be a better place because of what you did after the sun rose that morning.

I don’t have the time, energy, or willpower to think of ten, but:

  1. Brook no babbling.

  2. Introspect yourself daily.

  3. Keep your own council.

  4. Learn simple numbering systems.

  5. Be a friend.

A suggested Commandment the Eleventh: “Commandment” has two 'm’s."

I tried to pare it down to most of the good ones…It’s not Hammurabi, but what the hell:
Protect the innocent. Those who do not punish evil, command it to be done.

Try to seek the greatest good for the greatest number.

Love as you will, with consent.

When at all possible, what you do not want others to do to you, do not unto others.

In the long run, a large number of things just don’t matter. Try not to take things too seriously.

Laws are guidelines to order and justice. Though the might and should try to be, they are not, themselves, order and justice.

Remember: civlization is like a tourniquet on human society. Tie it too tight, the bloodflow cuts off, the flesh begins to rot, and the body dies. Tie it too loosely, and the blood spills out freely, and the body dies.

It’s unlikely that any one person, group, movement, or belief system has all the right answers about everything. Humans aren’t that perfect, and life’s not that simple. Try to figure things out for yourself.

Progress cannot be stopped. Not “shouldn’t”—can’t. Learn to adapt.

Nature, the cosmos, and humanity itself are things to be overcome, surpassed, mastered.
