Seriously, between her perfectly immobile forehead–we’re talking Cher level–and the prosthetic double chin, the only way she has left to demonstrate emotion is with the pursing of her mouth.
She looks like Martin Short playing Jiminy Glick playing Renée Zellweger playing Pam Hupp
My wife was watching that. I honestly couldn’t tell how much was makeup/fat suit and how much was really RZ. (I’ve been calling her “Puffy” for years… obviously not a fan.)
Didn’t get thru the first episode. Pam as written and played was stiffly unlikable; mainly felt impatience and annoyance (at best) when she was on-screen. And since she’s the main character…
Although I couldn’t determine how much was RZ and how much Hollywood makeup, I thought she did a masterful job portraying the character. Regardless of her real/artificial physical changes, you can’t discount RZ’s acting chops, IMO.
I watched the first 2 episodes yesterday. I think it’s pretty entertaining.
Going in, I hadn’t realized it was a comedy, though perhaps RZ’s makeup should have been my first clue. At first I was put off by the narration, mostly because I wasn’t expecting it but once I settled in to the style and tone I don’t mind or even really notice it anymore. I think RZ is doing a great job, as well as Judy Greer, like @Sherrerd said.
I wonder how many other people were expecting a different kind of movie and that’s why so many bad reviews.
The narration is by Keith Morrison, who is pretty much doing his “Dateline” schtick. Which I thought just added an extra level of weirdness to the whole thing.
