I’m pretty sure in the scene when Pyro flames the cops that Rogue

Yikes! Not only did I accidently post under my sister’s ID, I managed to double post with it! hangs head in shame And then I didn’t even get to finish the post.

Here it is.

I’m pretty sure that in the scene when Pyro flames the cops that Rogue grabs onto his leg, drains his powers and uses them to extinguish the fires. I gotta wonder if this had been part of her training at the Institute - borrowing her fellow mutants’ powers and learning how to use them. I’m also pretty sure that Pyro didn’t go comatose after this incident though - I seem to remember him walking out on his own two feet. It’s a bit of a disappointment that Rogue’s powers have toned down so much from the first movie where she also killed Wolverine with a few second’s touch and didn’t even make Pyro fall down after holding onto him for a good 20 seconds.

One of my favorite bits was the scene in the Oval Office between the President, General Stryker, and “Senator Kelly.” When Stryker mentions that he’s been in contact with Magneto, Mystique-as-Kelly, startled by the news, bursts out with the familiarity-implying “Erik?!” Then she very quickly catches herself and continues, “Erik Lensherr? You’ve spoken to him?”

Nice job by Bruce Davison there!

Cataclysm

With regards to Rogue’s powers I don’t think it was much of a tone down as possible character building. This version of Rogue only has absorption abilities, and I think that what they are hinting at is that she doesn’t have the angst, or the history that would prevent her from learning how to control it, especially since she’s got a good reason to figure out to in the form of Bobby and Logan. You can kind of see this in the scene where Bobby and Rogue are kissing, where a tentative kiss doesn’t do much, but when there’s the longer kiss and the loss of control, how quickly the effects are. She can’t fully control it, but she does have some measure of control which she used with Pyro, at least in my estimation.
Why are we still using spoiler tags in this thread? :shrugs: Well, loathe am I to go against peer pressure…

Regarding Rogue not straight up killing Bobby and Pyro (what the hell was his non-true name anyway?), I was thinking that maybe part of her training was training her to control how drastically she drained people’s powers/life.
I hate these spoiler tags

Maybe it is Rogue learning control. It just irks me tho, 'cos in the comics, Rogue NEVER learned how to control her powers. I know the movie Rogue isn’t going to be the same as comic Rogue - No Ms. Marvel powers. No Mystique as a mother. And plus she’s a hell of a lot younger. But I do wish they’d keep her powers the same. If Rogue suddenly develops full control over her powers in future movies, I think I’ll scream.

“What exactly are you a professor OF?”

“Art.”

That was great. And Hugh Jackman is one tasty man.

Screw the spoiler tags. The thread title bears the warning.

For me, the most memorable sequence in the movie was the very beginning, with NightCrawler’s presidential assassination attempt at the White House. The way it showed him teleporting all over the place, kicking ass with every appearance was just stunning. When they started to play Mozart’s Requiem (a german classical piece for the German mutant - a nice touch) during the scene, those gothic voices rising to the action as NightCrawler just F’s up every one, I almost wept with joy.

Best scene in the movie hands-down was Jean and Scott duking it out. Why? Because it was just like Tony and Tia duking it out in Return From Witch Mountain. Even the settings are similar (nuclear plant and hydro-electric plant). You gotta love a scene that ain’t afraid to crib from the best.

Why do we use spoiler tags when “SPOILERS” is in the title? It’s redundant and annoying.

And I loved Colossus’s little cameo. Just the way he walked in, turned metal, then smashed those guys…Damn. When he said to Wolverine “I can help you.” I was thinking “Yes! Go help! Destroy!” He said it like he knew what he could do…very sweet. He needs to be in the next movie.

Loved this scene too. Then again, I’m a big Nightcrawler fan.

However:

Lots of people have been refering to this as an assasination attempt. For the record - I don’t think it was. Stryker wanted Nightcrawler to scare the president, not kill him. A dead president can’t give Stryker authority for the raid on the mansion. Plus, an assasin wouldn’t need to leave a little note on the dagger. I think it’s not so much an assasination attempt as a terrorist attack.

See, I didn’t read the Rogue/ Bobby kiss as Rogue controlling her powers. I think that Bobby used his powers to create a frost barrier on his lips, which explains why you could see Rogue exhale afterwards. Since Bobby’s breath isn’t normally visible (which it would be if it were just that his breath were cold), this is the most plausible explanation. Rogue’s reaction also seems to confirm it. (She’s surprised and exhales misty breath). But when the kiss deepens, Bobby’s concentration (understandably) slips, and he doesn’t frost his tongue or the inside of his mouth fast enough.

Except that we see, when Iceman chills Wolverine’s carefully product-placed Dr Pepper, that Bobby is able to channel his powers in the form of frosty breath. The simplest explanation is generally the correct one, so it’s most likely that with the first kiss Rogue’s powers functioned like we’ve seen them function previously and she absobed Bobby’s powers and exhaled some frosty air. The second longer kiss led to his starting to be overwhelmed by her power (notice that his skin starts to go sallow, the same effect we see later on Pyro/John when she absorbs his powers to extinguish the flames).

Remember when I said my brain reveals information when it’s too late?
Well I did remember LDS talking to Mistique as the janitor afterwards. And it simply didn’t occur to me that pyro’s fire control can involve putting it out as well as move it, so I worked out the next possible reason why rogue was able to put them out.

I will go and see the movie again. Not to understand the plot better, but rather because it’s a bloody great movie.

I haven’t seen the movie, but according to the director (who was quoted in an interview with USA Today), Lady Deathstrike has one line in the movie. He said it seemed fitting that she have one line in this one, since she had one line in the original.

She was in the original? Where?

Slightish hijack.

Sam Hell mentioned the cameo appearance of Collosus.

I also noticed Syrin (screaming of course) and I think Shadowcat (falling through the floor.

Anyone else notice any others?

Fav thing? Anything with AP in it

Just checked www.imdb.com and she isn’t listed as having X-Men in her filmography.
