Yeah, I’m one of those lame people who doesn’t have a PC or any other gaming console after the PS1, so I was wondering if anyone who’s played this game can fill me in on the plot/storyline of the game. I know the basics, but I’m just curious as to how the gamers decided to continue the story of one of my all-time favorite horror movies. How does the Thing come back? Do they ever go back to investigate the ship? If so, what do they find? IS there anymore explaination into the origin of the Thing?
I’m sure telling it will reveal some spoilers to the movie/book, so anyone not wanting to have those spoiled should stop reading, because I want to know about this and don’t need any spoiler boxes. I know the existing story, so how does it continue?
I can’t help you too much with the plot, I never got past the first, maybe second level. Basically, you and your fellow soldiers show up at the Arctic base, trying to figure out what happened to everyone in the movie. The base from the movie is totalled, although you can find the remains of the second flying saucer Childs was building underground. Then you move on to the Norweigan base, which is still intact. You also find documents that seem to indicate that a genetic engineering company is trying to capture the thing to use as a military weapon. I don’t know how this panned out, but I’m guessing it’s something halfway between Resident Evil and the Alien movies. By the time this particular cliche had reared its ugly little head, I was already so fed up with the crappy controls and poor scripting of the game, I just gave up. Well, that and I couldn’t kill the first boss monster, which also put a damper on my enjoyment. Overall, it was just a shitty game. I’d recommend pretending it didn’t exsist.
But, if you’re desperate to know how it comes out, you could always just read the walk-through.
I read the walkthrough, but it really didn’t help. Most of the time it says “Use the PC to get more story” and then moves on. It doesn’t really explain any of the actual storyline, just where monsters and items are.
