The things we love & hate : Slang terms & phrases

It’s occured to me there seems to be a correlation between the proportion to the things most people tend to love or hate and slang words and phrases we make up for them.

Mundane? Check.

Pointless? Check.

Obvious? Check.

I suppose we could attempt our own comprehensive lexicon, or just visit UrbanDictionary.com.

Intriguing concept!

Without looking stuff up, I would suspect that the number of slang terms and expressions would be maximized in places like:

– theft and stealing
– death and dying
– sex, love and variations of same
– drunkenness
– races and ethnicities
– “odd” diseases and ailments

Yep, agreed.

Think how many slang terms there are for breasts and penises alone.

It seems the more lascivious, morbid, gross, deviant, criminal or debaucherous something is, the more slang terms we have for it.

We’re gonna need some charts.

Food, even if it is only contractions: Dogs, burgers, fries, slaw, wings, 'za… Watch Guy Fieri sometime, and you’ll see what I mean.
