Giraffe: You over reacted. The OP was short, but it made perfect sense to anyone who watches golf-- as noted in the OP.

Bullseye!? Or maybe Holeshot!?
I should have added: This is Masters Week-- arguable one of the greatest tournaments in golf. Anyone who has watched a golf tournament should’ve heard the idiots yelling “In the hole!” whenever someone make a shot. You just want to slap them silly. People just keep doing this and doing this, no matter how stupid it is. Idiocy is contagious.
Is this arguable? I do not see how could argue that the Masters is not one of the greatest tournaments. It would be like arguing Roland-Garros is not one of the greatest tennis tournaments.
My bad. I meant to say “arguably the greatest tournament”. Some will claim the British or US Open. In any case, The Masters is special.
Well, if Roland-Garros is that wonderful, why don’t they have one named Anthony-Fokker?
So they kept telling us. I saw one of the interminable muzak-scored inserts in which the presenter was stunned (simply stunned!) to be sitting in the ACTUAL TV STUDIO where the champion would be presented with his prize.
“And what’s the history of this room?”
“Well, CBS needed somewhere to go.”
“Gosh! And is that … <trembles> a lighting board? The actual lighting board CBS will use?”
Fascinating stuff. And no amount of clips of Phil Mickelson sitting down (in the very chair he once sat down in!) could possibly get old.
(Not that I disagree with you, of course, but Jeez-o, those hyper-reverent segments were nauseating. It’s just a golf tournament, guys.)
And if you start now, you might be able to get admission for your unborn children during their lifetimes.
I don’t golf. (The pro didn’t show up on my one inspired day.) And I didn’t watch the Masters. But I was really surprised when the thread was closed down. Even I knew what it was about.
Actually, it was a perfect thread for golf watchers. It had that sort of quiet nothingness buzz going on. You wouldn’t expect it to be loud like an SEC football game thread.
(Polite golf clap for the OP…)
Should have been moved to the Game Room.
They do, with an interruptor mechanism for the announcers’ cheap shots.
Bada BOOM!.
It seemed pretty reasonable to me to close it. Even though not a fanatic of golf, I do watch it. The thread made no sense (to me).
Dumb-ass people at the event yell “in the hole” (at the top of their lungs) every time someone makes a shot. It’s stupid and annoying, especially if you’re at the event, but even if you’re just watching on TV. You can’t have watched much golf without encountering that behavior.
So start a new thread with maybe a little more meat for us non-golfers.
Problem solved.
Just a few minutes after I started the ill-fated thread and in response to an in-the-holing incident, Peter Allis on the BBC said “Oh do shut up.” I feel vindicated.
Yeah, but…even if you “got” where the OP was coming from, still, judged as a Pit rant, it was pretty weak. Normally we require a bit more content from Pit rant OPs than merely, “[person]–shut up”, because shoot-from-the-hip off-the-top-of-my-head OPs like that come across as though the poster hadn’t really put any thought into it, he just rushed into the Pit and basically blogged about whatever was bugging him at the moment. Which isn’t entertaining to the rest of us; if we wanna read every-minute-of-my-day blogs, we know where to go.
Next time ya wanna flame the guys hollering, “In the hole!” at a golf tournament, put a little creativity into it, IOW.
I dislike watching golf, and i never watch it at all if i can avoid it, but i knew exactly what the OP of that thread was talking about, and why he was mad.
I agree with John Mace; there was no reason to close the thread.
If they claim the British Open, then they don’t know golf. The greatest tournament is indeed played in Britain, but it is The Open.
Giraffe should have known 2 woods have been obsolete for 30 years. If he says 2 wood ,he is not qualified to make such a decision.
I thought about writing just “The Open”, but I was afraid **Giraffe **wouldn’t get was I was talking about about and he’d close this thread.
Well, I guess I already did that.
I think it is too late for me to call back the hit squad I sent after you. Nothing personal, you understand.
