The Three Musketeers. Looks like they've fecked up another one

Looks like all they care about is having French ninja action and cool looking effects shot in 3D.

I love the 1970’s version. It’s full of great humour, has a good story, is cast and acted excellently. It was one of my favourites as a kid and I still love it and its sequel.

This version looks like it suffers from all the problems of many a modern movie. Too much attention on soulless CGI action, fast cuts for the fighting, not enough time to flesh out characters due to the action and effects dominating.

Le sigh!

I kind of like it, even though it does annoy me that they are promoting it as being in 3D in such an irritating sensationalist way. And it is Paul W S Anderson, who is famous for soulless CGI action.

What annoys me the most is that I’ve been writing a screenplay, and half the action scenes in my film look a lot like this. Only mine are less exciting. :stuck_out_tongue:

Judging by the trailer, the fight scenes in the 1974 Richard Lester version are far better. They showed people fighting the way people actually fight and not with stupid moves whose only purpose is to look kewl but are useless in a battle.

Also, what the hell is the city in the opening shot? Certainly not Paris.

Basically, this is a superhero film that decided to take the title The Three Musketeers as a marketing ploy.

Vom. It.

Holly Hell, it really looks shitty. It reminds me of Peter Hyams’ “D’Artagnan”, which also went for the fighting with cables thing. Well, at least the Hyams movie had terrific lights, this one looks really meh. Will Anderson succeed in massacring anything that was cool with The Musketeers after he had successfully done so with the Predators? Seems so.

I really dont get why modern filmamkers think you have to inject Asian style moves in classical Western tales. Couldnt they scratch their brain and come up with something of their own, something Western, or in this case, something French (after all that’s what Asian cinema did to get their action movies off the ground, they came up with something Asian)?

Looks like Venice.

Yeah, that trailer does very little for me. The cast gives me some hope, though:

Milla Jovovich as Milady
Orlando Bloom as Buckingham
Matthew Macfadyen as Athos
Ray Stevenson as Porthos
Christoph Waltz as Richelieu

That explains the out of place martial arts. Remember what Anderson did with Alice, in the Resident Evil movies?

I love the 70s ones with Chamberlain/York/Reed etc most of all, but I actually quite enjoyed the Sheen/Sutherland/Platt 90s version. Mostly for Platt and Sutherland, I think.

Wow, that looks stupid.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ll still watch it, but I’m not expecting anything close to the book.

I’m a sucker for cool-looking action sequences, though.

Ye gads.

Was that a sail-powered airship? Wha?

Accent apocalypse!

The trailer looks pretty good. The question is will the movie be worse than the trailer.

Almost certainly if trailers over he last few years are anything to go by. Hell the trailer for The Phantom Menace looked great.

…Hmm… if it wasn’t for the “bad ass princess” trope… a kind of gear-punky 3 Musketeers might be interesting.
