The Time Machine 2002 casting question?

A not horrible movie, but one thing that impressed the hell out of me was the casting on the future eloi(note that this adaptation makes the eloi normal humans but keeps the morlocks) they used casting and hair dressing to convey a future population without races, pretty neat.

Here comes my question though which is if they could do it, what is stopping other movies? I often read that it is a pain in the ass to even cast an asian actor/actress. but TTM could populate a whole village with mixed race individuals?(or using hair dressing to create ambiguity).

I recall Ron Moore saying casting baby Hera on Battlestar Galactica was hard, and M.Night saying it was impossible to cast Avatar the movie to match the show(fantasy setting where one nation is clearly inuit inspired).

Is this really that hard?

No.

It’s challenging, but not impossible. I think their biggest obstacle is Executive Interference.

In Ron Moore’s case, the problem may have been casting a baby who looked half-white and half-Korean. In M. Night’s case, he’s just full of shit.

Which is compounded with the fact that it’s hard to cast children at all, of any race.
