You’re choosing to believe this so you can insult him. It’s a choice you’re making. Making such a choice is shitty, unkind, indecent, etc.
All this time, over and over, what you’ve clung to most was that you were decent and kind and those who criticized you were not. That’s just not true.
A bunch of silliness, and I know I’ve taken part in the silliness at times. But I still try to be a kind and decent poster, and it’s a shame you don’t.
Huh? By what basis could you possibly claim that we’re a poorly educated country compared to a past in which actual statistics on education (degree attainment and the like) were so much worse?
“Poorly educated” doesn’t mean “has less education”. It means “people don’t recognize anymore that things were better before the young/poor/marginalized got uppity.”
If we was properly edjumacated nobody would be a liberal.
So we weren’t able to fool you like we did every college-educated neophyte. You foiled our plans by skipping school! Luckily you’re such a crotchety dislikeable fuck, nobody wants to share in your vision of the truth. PRAISE SOROS!
Now that marijuana is on its way to complete legalization, we’re going to get heroin and KUE-KAIN into every American home! You think this country is vile, vulgar, drug and crime infested now, wait till the mid terms! PRAISE SOROS!
We’re working on rewording the Bible next. God is now going to be gender neutral and all references to sHe being a father will be removed. PRAISE SOROS!
:dubious: Interesting selective quoting there on your part, Starving Artist. It’s a lot easier to claim that someone else is lying about you when you deliberately omit the part where he acknowledges that his description is a paraphrase rather than a literal representation of your remarks.
And as a matter of fact,“complaining how today’s Negros are more uppity than back in the 50s” is not really inaccurate or unfair as a sarcastic paraphrase of some of the things you’ve said about the “attitudes” of American blacks.
And mind you, that was in a thread that was trying to explore the persistence of racial disparity and discrimination in the criminal justice system, based on some pretty specific statistical analysis. Nonetheless, you kept on trying to insist that the fundamental problem is really black people’s “self-segregation” and “resentment” and “attitudes” that are “holding them back” from “joining the rest of society”.
Of course you didn’t literally use the exact words “today’s Negros are more uppity”, and of course MrDibble never claimed that you did. But that phrase isn’t actually a bad description of the patronizing, scolding tone of your remarks about black “attitudes”.
:dubious: Hmmm. Deliberately obfuscating another poster’s explicitly acknowledged paraphrase, so you can try to present it instead as an outright lie, so you can use that as an excuse to try to discredit everything else the poster says, even including his long-ago allusions to his experiences as a victim of child molestation.
No. That is not something a that a truly “nice and likable” person would do.
People who are genuinely nice and likable don’t keep a private corner of internet anonymity as their personal spite-and-anger playground where they heap blame on everybody else for their own unpleasant behavior. Not even if they protest at the same time that they would never behave so unpleasantly anywhere else.
Well, we built an awesome interstate highway system and our space program put a man on the moon. And the welfare expansions in the 1960’s lifted multitudes of people, mostly people of color, out of abject poverty.
This was the era of American Exceptionalism. And the top marginal tax rate was 91%. And the whole “decline of America” that SA perceives tracks with the decline of the personal income tax rate.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I much prefer today’s world — because I’m kind of a hippie. I just wanted to remind everyone that there’s one thing about the 50’s and 60’s that the conservatives disavow. But these tax rates made a superior infrastructure and strong middle class possible.
No matter what else, he will always be the person who accused MrDibble of fabricating the rape that happened to him. Not a hypothetical scenario, but an actual member here who has shared some pretty horrific experiences with us. And he threw it back at him. To me that says everything about someone’s character.
Lord, I hate to add to the SA Show, but I would like to point out that he has been hateful and gross since (well before) I joined the board. Here in this thread he is going after a rape victim, calling him a liar, and in other threads, he has tried to pretend that rape was super rare in his believed 50s because women knew how to handle men who got handsy, and the men respected that (or some shite). That’s all aside from his notorious thought experiments regarding child rape. At this point, I believe the senile old man is merely trolling, especially since he says that people IRL find him to be pleasant and even somewhat liberal in politics. Here, he is nasty and liberals are evil. So - representing his true views? oh, no.
Not to mention his objections to be referred to as old, then suddenly reversing it and accepting the description.
IIRC, I didn’t claim he lied about having been raped, only that in light of his having lied about my having posted racist comments of a sort I’ve never made or even thought in my life, his credibility is shot and there’s simply no way to know.
You wouldn’t know “accuracy” if it crawled up your ass and slithered out your throat.
He’s like Dio – if he didn’t experience it, it never happened. Nothing outside of his scope, or his life ever happened. Nobody else’s experiences, or knowledge count. He is the ultimate authority.
No matter how many times he’s been contradicted. Dopers, their families, their friends – none of it matters. If it conflicts with his view of how the Fifties were the the Greatest Time in History, and Everything Went to Hell in the Sixties, then it’s wrong. Period.
Once he finally figured out that seeming touchy about his age wasn’t a good look and was inviting mockery:
In brief, he complained about being called old and spent several posts assuring us of his youthful appearance and fitness (including his status vis-a-vis erectile dysfunction medication, which again rates a resounding “eewwwwww” on the TMI scale).
And then suddenly he changed tack to being a self-described “realist” who’s achieved serene acceptance of growing old (although of course he still has to remind us how youthful and fit he is), so being called old doesn’t bother him at all.
