On page 42, You can see NASA funds $1,549M of the total $2,599M, dwarfing all other contributions to research.
If you don’t like the policy implications of science, just stop funding it and you can put your head in the sand and just make policy decisions in the absence of solid science.
What counts as “one” regulation? I imagine that there’s quite a bit of diversity in the length and complexity of regulations. Couldn’t they just enact some big 200 page regulation and repeal two trivial things to go along (and then staple the same things onto the new one as pages 201 and 202)?
I fear the opposite effect would take place in this “Let’s free up business!” atmosphere-trivial regulations introduced for the purpose of eliminating major regs that business lobbyists find distasteful.

You have omitted the third effect; if he does deliver on his promises the demographic which elected him will wear most of the short term adverse effects and whatever benefits accrue will be both slow in coming and not necessarily to their advantage.
Overall I think the know-nothings have delivered the billionaire’s wet dream.
What Trump will deliver is be a free-fire zone for the rich against the middle & lower classes.

Far more likely the propaganda front holds long enough and it returns a wildly Trumpist congress in 2018 and they actually support some of his hare-brained headline grabbers. About then the professional bureaucracy folds its resistance too and that’s when life in Amerika gets surreal.
I have to agree with your analysis. As the political system sinks into the abyss of ignorance and scapegoating, the question is whether there will be enough voters who realize it’s all been a con, who realize the incredible stupidity and mendacity of some of the idiots Trump has been appointing, or whether there will be a move towards the idea of “not enough Trumpists in charge, that’s the problem!”. I’m not sure if I’m quite as pessimistic yet as you are about how this will play out, but I do agree that those are the parameters. But then again, there’s the famous H.L. Mencken quote, “No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public.”
