Because the people doing that in El Salvador do the same work for less money.
Yes, I also hope you are wrong on that guess.
Other possibilities:
They don’t want him to come back because then he might talk to the press and put things in a bad light (they should be in a bad light if you ask me, which no one did…)
Bringing him back would be admitting a mistake, which Trump never, ever does.
Congressional reporter Craig Caplan reported that yesterday, House Ways and Means committee chair Jason Smith (R-MO) led a delegation of Republican House members to tour CECOT. The delegation included representatives Ron Estes (KS), Kevin Hern (OK), Mike Kennedy (UT), Carol Miller (WV), Riley Moore (WV), and Claudia Tenney (NY). At least some of the representatives had photographs taken of them in CECOT, standing in front of the caged men.
Ron Estes is my (worthless) representative. I will be calling his office today.
Hitting close to home. A PHD student from my wife’s church got a message that his visa was revoked after a criminal background check. His criminal history is two speeding tickets and once keeping fish in a catch and release area. Just so you know what kind of dangerous terrorists the administration is trying to protect us from.
Has a lawyer and is fighting it, but I doubt it will help.
Garcia is deliberately dressed in a way to make it look like his imprisonment is mild. Ever see a prison visit setup with such drinking glasses and teacups?
It could be that Trump ordered this meeting.
It could be that Bukele noticed Trump’s falling poll numbers and did it on his own.
It could also be that Bukele did it out of fear of what a Democratic U.S. president could do to make his life miserable in 2029.
Bukele can go off on this own just a bit, but will not seriously defy Trump.
Re my last post, it turns out that the Salvadoran authorities had Garcia meet with the Senator in a hotel, and have, according to Bukele, returned him to the horror prison — presumably back in the white uniform.
They certainly should try. Then we’d find out whether Americans are living in a hard autocracy, or just a hybrid regime.
I’ll allow that Senator Van Hollen was in slight physical danger.
The danger to Kilmar Abrego Garcia is far greater. Unless almost insanely brave, he tried to follow the rules he was given as to what to say and how to act. But whether Abrego Garcia’s captors are satisfied with his performance is impossible for us to know.
This meeting fulfills a political goal of Senator Chris Van Hollen, and apparently also of elected autocrat Nayib Bukele:
I’m not saying that Van Hollen did the wrong thing. I am saying that no one here knows whether or not this visit was a good idea.
Wonderful! I’ve noted previously that I feared he was already dead and that was the real reason for the strenuous fight not to bring him back. I am SO DAMN GLAD to be wrong.
