The Trump deportation news thread

Here’s a longer story from Wired on the subject of inadequate health care at ICE facilities.

Story may be paywalled, sorry…….it hasn’t been saved to the Internet Archive yet.

I think you misspelled ‘thug.’

So every four years we should replace a lawless right wing administration, that ignores civil service protections, with a left wing counterpart?

But there’s no reason for me to be upset about this proposal, because there is no way a presidential ticket committed to such a program, or even that hints at it, could win.

I don’t think firing 100% of ICE is quite the same. We could fire them all by disbanding this unnecessary organization. Someone else can do customs enforcement, as they did not all that long ago, and we can learn to be honest about our immigration issues and straighten them the fuck out.

It’s just that what migration patterns and legal systems have evolved over time provide convenient scapegoats, which themselves are convenient for fascists, who then need a secret police, and here we are.

I don’t know what a left wing counterpart to ICE would look like. It’s just clear to me that many of these ICE thugs are doing horrific things because they enjoy it. If the current regime is getting rid of everyone who isn’t MAGA, why shouldn’t Democrats return the favor? I’m sick of Democrats bringing forks to a gunfight.

Why, masked men who kidnap white people off the street and throw them into gay camps, duh.

If they’re pregnant the foetus will be aborted, of course.

When the Gestapo and SS were shut down, there weren’t left wing equivalents set up. Get rid of all ICE felons, pare down the agency’s mission to what it is supposed to do, and hire employees who have hearts. That’s all I’m asking.

Another sign we’re circling the drain. A federal judge in Tennessee ordered Abrego Garcia jailed. Not as punishment, but to protect him from federal thugs.

The defense argued that since the Executive branch has stated publicly that if Garcia was released, he would immediately be deported, it would be safer for Garcia to be kept in custody. The US Attorney told the judge that as a US Attorney, he had no authority over what ICE agents do and couldn’t assure the court that Garcia would not be, in fact, deported immediately upon release.

The DOJ admitted, under oath, that ICE agents are out of control.

I thought they had sufficient evidence that they were going to charge Kilmar Abrego Garcia for smuggling immigrants into the United States for money. But now, they want to just deport him without charging him? If he’s such an evil human trafficker, why wouldn’t they want to pursue criminal charges?

I thought it was just driving them from one place to another within the US.

From an AP News article

The indictment, filed last month and unsealed Friday [June 6], lays out a string of allegations that date back to 2016 but are only being disclosed now, nearly three months after Abrego Garcia was mistakenly deported and following the Trump administration’s repeated claims that he is a criminal.

It accuses him of smuggling throughout the U.S. thousands of people living in the country illegally, including children and members of the violent MS-13 gang, from Central America and abusing women he was transporting.

Looks like

  1. The Trump administraion has its sights set on not just illegal/undocumented workers but ALL migrants with the talk of a “100% American work force” and
  2. Plans to force people on Medicaid to work the fields. At least the ones deemed “able-bodied”.

Which leads to the question of how are they going to get all those people - most of which live in urban areas because 80% of Americans live in urban areas these days - out in to the agricultural heartland? Bus them? Charge them for transportation and take it out of whatever meager wages they are given? Are they going to allow single parents with no alternative to take their children with them?

I mean, what could possibly go wrong?

LInk to article in CNN

Also I don’t think there are enough Americans of working age that we could replace all of the undocumented in the economy. Not to mention how tough many agricultural field jobs are.

Plus the question of if the farms want them even if they are free. Especially if the farms are merely low on labor and not nearly devoid of it. You’d have to divert people to teach and monitor them to make sure they are not damaging the crops or picking bad crops, and they might get in the way of the other workers, and might be a liability hazard.

No, all non-whites. He has stated an intention to revoke citizenship and expel natural-born citizens.

This is ethnic cleansing.

This is also terrifying. I never thought the country would descend to this level.

Not doubting you, but did he actually say “natural born” citizens? What the heck kind of fake reasoning does he give for that?

The current government is working relatively hard to create a recession (i.e. a sudden increase in unemployment). Their budget goals, however, would correct for that by massively increasing the size of the US Federal government.

An increase of $90b in ICE spending a year is equivalent to the employment of 2.25m employees, all making good government money in some Federal union, entitled to a government pension payout.

It’s really sort of the Democratic dream. The more likely course would be that they are swung around into tax enforcement, the military, or other parts of the government that have more value than window breaking.

I do not see this happening in the U.S., but as a matter of fact:

As to what should be done with cruel mass deportation employees recruited into Trump’s security organs once the U.S. government is again led by leaders who believe in rule of law and representative democracy, it will not be easy. While I do not call Trump a fascist – he’s more of a normal dictator – there will be a lot of employees who were hired that shouldn’t have been, with some process analogous to a denazification or reconciliation commission needed.

One advantage such a U.S. commission or similar will have: Most Trump era hires may be contractors. Cancelling a contract is easier than firing traditionally unionized employees.

Some details are coming out about the conditions at Alligator Alcatraz, and it’s worse than you can possibly imagine. One meal a day. Maggot-infested food. Detainees not permitted baths or Bibles.

The Trump administration are war criminals.
