The Trump deportation news thread

It’s a response to the 14th Amendment to the US Constitution that says : All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.

Trump has stated that he intends to expel children of illegal immigrants, who were born in the US, and who are thus legal citizens. His justification is that the above text was only meant to apply to children of freed slaves.

He’s making noises about stripping Elon Musk’s citizenship and deporting him and last I heard Musk is as White as they come. I’d take a guess that being White won’t save you if you piss off Trump. As you noted, he’s looking for a way to get rid of undesirable native-born citizens, too, whether the “wrong” color or annoying even while White.

Yes, yes it is. And “Alligator Alcatraz” is a straight-up concentration camp.

Some of us have been sounding the alarm for a couple of years now, but were dismissed as over-reacting, crazy, or less pleasent things.

But no, they’re not “war criminals” because this is not coming from a war, or POW’s. This is a government turning against internal civilians. Equivalent to 1930’s Nazi-run Germany turning against the Jews inside Germany, along with a side order of oppressing other groups like Romani and homosexuals.

This time around it’s “Mexicans”, meaning anyone from south of the border whose native language is Spanish. As most of them are “Brown” it saves forcing them to sew little yellow tacos onto their clothing to identify them. Sweeping up the occasional US citizen among them? :woman_shrugging: Sucks to be them.

Truth is Trump’s thugs are happily arresting any immigrant they can, of any color of ethnicity, and deporting them, too, but they’re really concentrating on the Latinos. Makes me wonder how things will be down the line for the wives of powerful politicians who are of that ethnicity, will their husbands be able to defend them? Not to mention the elected members of Congress who are themselves Latino/Latina. A few years down the line, who knows?

I think I expected more pushback from Republicans in Congress or the courts, including the Supreme Court. I didn’t think that Congress and the Supreme Court would just roll over and agree to whatever he wants. It seems that the Supreme Court hasn’t ruled against him in any of the cases that have come to them.

The courts have ruled against Trump, including the SCotUS (notably regarding Garcia’s wrongful deportation to El Salvador), but Trump has simply ignored those rulings to a considerable extent.

That’s part of the problem; most Republican presidents are wrong about absolutely everything, but they are at least wrong within normal parameters. And even previous Republican presidents didn’t just ignore court rulings.

I think Florida is building a second “camp” at Camp Blanding in Starke, which is close to Ocala. So, maybe not tents but old Army barracks (?).

From the pictures in the article above, it appears that DeSantis and the Florida legislature are trying to create their own version of the prison in El Salvador. White clothing, very few if any amenities, etc. Hopefully, when/if this is all over we (the USA) can have our very own Nuremberg trials.

There’s a very old meme format on the 'net (going back, I don’t know, fifteen years or so?) that started with that skeleton lifting weights. The original version said something like “my body is a machine that turns pain into strength” or some such. People immediately jumped onto it with variations like “my body is a machine that turns Taco Bell into diarrhea.” And then there were the political variations like “my body is a machine that turns Nazis into corpses.”

So this is just Trump’s gang of thuggish trolls engaging in some gleeful juvenile chain-yanking.

Does anyone at ICE even bother enforcing the customs laws or are they just spending all their time and money on deportations?

I guessing these days the vast majority is just deport deport deport.

Wouldn’t “customs laws” include tariffs? The ICE expansion could be planning for that as well as their regular Gestapo duties.

Difference from previous case is this is a class action, which apparently makes a difference.

Canadian who lived in the US since age 3, working with green card, denied re-entry to US after trip to visit relatives in Canada.

Green card cancelled due to old marijuana charges in 2004 and 2007, for which he pled guilty and paid fines.

Although not eligible to vote, he supported Trump in the election.

His chances of being allowed back into the U.S., so long as the current administration is in power, would be slim to none if he didn’t say that.

I don’t think he has a snowball’s chance in hell of being let back in under the current administration. He’s not rich, he’s no one important, he doesn’t have powerful friends. He’s screwed and he needs to wrap his head around the notion that he will probably never be able to return to the US, he’s going to be spending the rest of his life in Canada.
