Ahh, like the people who were “made” to vote for Trump.
I never buy “you made me”.
Is Home Depot demanding ICE when they arrive for a raid show a judicial (not administrative) warrant or is Home Depot giving consent.
It’s a retail store open to the public. Is there any need for a warrant?
Note that I’m not defending the goons but Home Depot may have consulted with counsel and is doing what they are required to.
That’s not what I’m saying.
I’m saying that most people are rather selfish, and when personally inconvenienced, they will blame the immediate cause of the inconvenience, in this case, protesters, rather than the apparently innocent retail outlet.
Based on this information from LII, an administrative warrant is issued by a judge. The difference is a lower standard of proof:
As Dewey_Finn says, Home Depot may have received legal advice that they are required to comply with that warrant.
And that indignation against the protestors will spur them to stand in line for 45 minutes to buy their stuff, rather than drive 30 minutes to Lowe’s or Ace?
As you state, people are selfish.
If it’s open to the public, do they need a warrant at all?
I’m no lawyer but 49 USC §32707,
(3)The judge or magistrate shall issue the warrant when the judge or magistrate decides there is a reasonable basis for believing that probable cause exists to issue the warrant. The warrant must—
(A)identify the premises, property, or motor vehicle to be inspected and the items or type of property to be impounded;
does not seem to be about arresting people.
A know-your-rights webpage from the ACLU of Northern California says
ICE can enter areas open to the general public (dining area, parking lot, waiting room) of a business without permission. But that does not give ICE the authority to detain, question, or arrest anyone.
Next up? Haitians:
Trump says Haiti no longer meets requirements for TPS. Haitians have to leave - Miami Herald
Though, in fairness, they may need a few more hands to defend their outlying islands from marauding American MAGA loons.
In this morning’s paper (I make no comment):
ICE harrassing Marilyn from Northern Exposure
https://www.miamiherald.com/news/local/community/florida-keys/article313356223.html
“She refused to cooperate and identify herself with all levels of law enforcement there,” said agency spokesman Alan Regalado, noting Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputies were there. A Herald reporter saw deputies moving drivers along who were slowing down to watch the stop. After agents removed the woman from her car, they found her driver’s license in the vehicle, ran it through their system and confirmed she is a U.S. citizen, Regalado said. He would not specify the criteria agents were using to justify pulling people over during the operation, which has been ongoing in the Key Largo area for the past few weeks. “We can’t go into specifics bout what we’re going to look for,” Regalado said.
Another perfectly fine Kavanaugh Stop I am sure.
I haven’t seen this mentioned anywhere:
The Old State Saloon in Eagle, Idaho is offering one month of free beer to anyone who turns an undocumented immigrant in to ICE and that immigrant gets deported. Additionally, they’re offering free beer to any undocumented immigrants who will self-deport.
DHS has reposted the offer.
Which is fine, I guess, but I’m sure they’ll be doing fantastic business anyway.
Yeah. I watched that whole video waiting for him to say what’s actually happening to the amount of business the bar’s doing, or to either the bar’s or the owner’s local relationships. Not a word; all about the online reaction.
Admittedly, from what he said the bar owner’s pissed about the online reaction. I suppose the video poster may have thought he was just addressing that.
ICE arrested a man on his way to one of his thrice-weekly five-hour dialysis sessions, and took him offsite. By the time they stopped, five hours later, he was showing symptoms. They forced him to sign a “voluntary” deportation order on pain of death.
These people are fucking monsters and the whole system needs to burn down.
ICE is using unremovable smart watches to track some undocumented immigrants, which is causing problems when pregnant women need to get C-sections or people need to get MRIs.
Judge Xinnis orders Abrego-Garcia released from ICE custody immediately.
