The Trump deportation news thread

ICE needs to detain White American citizens until they can prove they’re here legally. Not only would this show that they are applying the law equally, it would get people used to carrying zee papahss.

This is why I think obtaining and carrying a passport card is a good idea. It will fit in a wallet next to your driver’s license and should be enough to prove US citizenship.

I just carry a credit card sized piece of brown paper bag.

Sure. Soon as I can apply for one, which will be shortly after I obtain an official copy of my birth certificate because, apparently, the one that I’ve been using for 55+ years is now deemed not good enough. I’m not sure if it’s because it’s an old format, it’s faded, or it’s starting to fall apart what with being a piece of paper over a half century old.

Given all the BS going on in government these days who knows how long all of the above will take?

I wonder whether having the Real ID would suffice?

Perhaps? No idea. Given the deport first, ask questions later approach, it’s no guarantee.

What’s a passport card?

“The U.S. passport card is a wallet-sized, plastic passport that has no visa pages. The card is proof of U.S. citizenship and identity, and has the same length of validity as the passport book. The card is for U.S. citizens who travel by land and sea from Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, and some Caribbean countries.” From here.

BTW, regarding the 30,000 deportees they’re talking about housing in Guantanamo Bay, the New York Times says,

Adding 30,000 beds would dramatically expand the government’s detention capacity. A site on the 45-square-mile base could hold those 30,000 deportees. That site is on the opposite side of the body of water called Guantánamo Bay from the Pentagon’s prison for terrorism suspects.

Successive administrations have prepared fields on a remote section, near the airfield but far from the population center, to accommodate tens of thousands of migrants in a sprawling tent city.

:notes:Nobody knows in America :notes:
:notes:Puerto Rico’s in America :notes:

BTW, deporting people to a highly secure naval base in Cuba is going to make it difficult for attorneys to meet with their clients, though I suspect Trump and his ilk see that as a feature, not a bug.

I lived on the base for a year back in the 1980s and it was a shithole for enlisted workers.

I can’t imagine what it looks like now or what they imagine to build. The logistics are simply astounding.

Hopefully the desalination plant works better than it did to supply water. And maybe there’s a bigger hospital on base to provide medical care. They will need a consistent supply chain of goods as well which was always a problem when I was there.
:worried:

Googling, there are about 6,000 people at the naval base, so that number of deportees would be five times that. (I assume they would need thousands more staff to manage the detention center.)

Googling further, in most state penitentiaries, there are about three inmates per staff member, so a population of 30,000 deportees implies a staff of 10,000!

There’ll be an EO ordering the Cuba faucet to be turned on.

The Tennessee Senate has passed a bill making it a class-E felony for lawmakers to vote in favor of sanctuary city policies that go against Trump’s agenda, and prescribe removal from office as a further form of retribution against them.

It also orders the Department of Public Safety to give temporary driver’s license to legal permanent resident aliens as a form of voter ID.

The bill awaits passage by the House before making it to the governor’s desk.

In addition, the bill requires the Department of Public Safety to issue lawful permanent residents a temporary driver’s license instead of a standard license. The temporary license will reportedly be used to help determine voter eligibility for someone who presents a Tennessee driver’s license as identification.

Surely this will not mean that citizens with temporary driver’s licenses will be denied the right to vote.

The Tennessee Constitution has a Speech And Debate Clause that mirrors the one in the federal constitution, so this is doomed in court.

Job creation!

If they vote against Dear Leader, that is clear evidence of treason.
