I disagree.
While I don’t really believe that Trump is going to do much of what he says, I feel it is just plain stupid not to assume that when Trump says he wants to do something, he actually intends to do it.

Huh. By any chance, was the company All In A Touch? I use them for housecleaning (live on the North Shore) and usually get a crew of three young women. When they came this last Monday there were only two of them. The last name of the company’s scheduler is DaSilva.
I’m in Malden. Don’t ask (most convenient location north of Boston, but while everywhere around us gets nicer, Malden doesn’t)
But no, that’s not them. This is RP Sisters
Hey, I grew up in Melrose right between the library and Ell Pond! And at least Malden has the T station for commuting into Boston rather than having to drive.
Yes. There’s only two practical ways to remove tens of millions of people:
Likely, there’s a variety of laws that would make all of this easier or more practical besides what I mentioned. And so, again, you would want to work with Congress to do it.
Anything that doesn’t start with Congress is, fundamentally, just smoke and mirrors. The Executive Branch doesn’t have what it needs to do this. They have what they need to maintain the status quo. That’s why the status quo is where it is.
I helped deal with a false rumor today. Overreaction? This month, probably. But they are recruiting to hire more border patrol agents.
Maybe I am overreacting myself, but this forum can be read by the Border Patrol. It makes me nervous to see publicly stated the names of businesses that they could target.
Jesus, I graduated Melrose High in 1991.
Moved to NH (Derry) and loved it, but got tired of commuting back to the city & airport and my parents were getting old, so we moved back.
I take your point, but I doubt they need to go trolling through SDMB posts to figure out where to go hunting.
ETA: Hey, @OldOlds, Melrose High graduate here too, only I escaped in 1967. Yes, I’m THAT old.
On this occasion, he is clearly stating his intention. He says he wants to expel 20 million people, that means he really does want to expel 20 million people.
He won’t be able to do so. He’s not smart enough to organize it . The resources to do it don’t exist. But his intention has been stated clearly. And thousands, if not millions will be harmed in the attempt.
Not to credit Trump with a large amount of intelligence but I think we can believe that he understands basic concepts like, “If you want to put 500 people in a hotel on 4th Ave, and there currently is just 1 hotel that only fits 10 people, then we need to build a bigger hotel and wait for it to actually exist, before we can proceed.”
He grew up in a construction business and, in theory, runs a hotel/golf business that has to perform logistics all day, every day.
At the beginning of his first term, you might say that he wasn’t aware of the logistical effort of the undertaking. But, he was surrounded by genuine, real, capable Republicans who would have given him the precise steps to follow to achieve success. Even today, he’s probably been offered real solutions that would meet his goals.
We know, for one, that he’s fully rejected E-Verify and I expect that he’ll continue to reject it since he is, himself, a hotel operator, friend with lots of hotel operators, and his base is full of farm owners.
If he’s refusing those, it’s because he doesn’t care enough to try and do it for real. If he actually cared, he’d at least try to get into negotiations with Congress.
Why negotiate? Their current approach is just to threaten any Republicans in Congress who step out of line with being primaried. (Though I do wonder if they (the Republicans in Congress) will ever develop a backbone, or want to assert their Constitutional authority as what’s supposed to be a co-equal branch of government.)

That is a form of negotiation.
But even considering those to be separate, he’s doing neither.
It becomes easier to hit arbitrary deportation quotas when you do things like revoke Venezuela TPS with no warning. I’ll be curious to see how the Ukrainians here on Unite for Ukraine or other temporary programs fare in comparison.

That Mexico paid for. And bring back those factory jobs for the rust belt.
and new one-And lower the price of eggs.

Name two.
His goal was to deport enuf to make him look like a tough guy, and scare millions more.
I think you guys are underestimating what damage Trump is going to do to the Latino community. I know there really aren’t any on this board who will be effected by this, but it’s not something they can just laugh off and assume Trump won’t do it.
And yet, (Googling) roughly 40% of Latino voters chose Trump.
That doesn’t change what’s happening
Name two.
John Kelly, Mitch McConnell. I can go on with another dozen names.
To be sure, Trump had some bozos in his surroundings right from day 1 of his first term. But there was no shortage of serious people, either.
His goal was to deport enuf to make him look like a tough guy, and scare millions more.
So… Say that you could have a billion dollars or you could have most of everyone believe that you probably have a billion dollars (when you’re actually living check to check).
Nobody chooses option 2.
Trump has a Republican Senate that just accepted Pete Hegseth - a guy who’s probably an alcoholic and low on self-control, with no experience successfully managing a paper bag. He got criminal charges dropped for trying to doctor up fake documents declaring himself president. He’s basically a guy that shat on the flag and then threw it on Jesus, while laughing, and a majority of the people watching decided the vote to make him President again.
He’s working with a Republican House and a Republican Senate and a Republican Supreme Court, all of which he has had reasonable influence in selecting.
Trump’s ambition is fleecing the rubes for money, pinching pennies, and getting away with bad behavior in plain sight. Illegal workers are good for a penny pincher. Saving illegal workers for fellow business owners, while telling everyone on Fox that you’re ruthlessly getting rid of them is amazingly bad behavior that is liable to be successfully hidden.
I would work to reduce illegal immigration and visa overstays. Donald Trump is working to make headlines. If that’s done, that’s enough.
That doesn’t change what’s happening
True, and I feel sorry for the 60% who voted for Harris.
For the rest I have zero pity. They knew who they were voting for when they picked him.
