The Trump Impeachment Inquiry

I know Trump is teh SUXXORS but is that the whole point of your post? Or do you honestly think someone will be arrested for disrespecting Trump? Does America become a fascist dictatorship Monday morning when Hill is arrested before she can testify?

The way the shit has been hitting the pants lately, nothing would surprise me.

But yes, I am full of snarky angst this evening as well. Ya got me.

What I do think is very likely is that, as that article points out, the White House will attempt to block her testimony, at the eleventh hour, by claiming executive privilege.

Eventually, all this executive privilege bullshit is going to have to be decided by the supreme court one way or another. And essentially the court is going to have to decide whether or not to uphold United States v. Nixon, 418 U.S. 683 (1974)

If she shows up and starts talking, do you think the Secret Service will drag her away?

Do they have the authority to do that? I hey wouldn’t be allowed would they?

As she’s no longer an employee, what can the White House legally do to stop her? Is there a way they can physically drag her away if she says fuck you to trump?

Wasn’t Trump reported to have required his staff to sign NDAs? I’m not a lawyer, but perhaps based on either an NDA or Executive Privilege he could get a judge to issue an order (injunction? whatever it is) barring her from testifying under threat of contempt of court? I doubt she could be physically hauled out, but she could be threatened into silence by some legal penalty if she testifies. I dunno. Just talking out of my ass here.

But her emails.

^^^ Still funny.

It’s almost like when some copy editor forgets to replace that “lorem ipsum…” placeholder text before publishing something.

Is there a website that is compiling all the events of this impeachment? Something like a timeline, list of all the people involved and their roles, the relevant laws, etc? Following this thing on a daily basis and keeping track of all the twists and turns is becoming more difficult with each passing day.

I’m curious to see if Yovanovitch testifies today. Will she be told to obstruct? Will she heed the order? Dun-dun-dunn.
“Trump on Thursday suggested he might not let Yovanovitch testify.
“I just don’t think, you’re running a country, I just don’t think that you can have all of these people testifying about every conversation you’ve had,” Trump told reporters when asked if he would let Yovanovitch testify.
Yovanovitch was still expected to testify before the three committees as of Thursday evening, according to a source with knowledge of the matter.”

On NPR this morning, they stated that she’s still an employee. I doubt she’ll show up to testify today.

The NY Times is sending out a daily email with updates that include short interviews with knowledgeable folks about specific events that took place. It’s a good read. You can sign up for it at the Times website and you don’t have to be a subscriber.

We do not hand out Warnings for every possible infraction. Often we decide that a comment may have been made intemperately that we do not expect to become a hait and we just ask the poster to dial it down. Commenting on Mod actions outside ATMB is also eligible for a Warning, but I am only going to give you a Mod Note for this.

I am willing to upgrade this to a Warning if you need to continue in this vein.

Good.

So, off to the supremes?

They keep us hangin’ on!

You mean off to John Roberts.

One man is going to define and determine, defend or destroy, the future of ‘American Democracy’.
