The Trump Impeachment Inquiry

The State Dept did try to keep Yovanovitch from testifying.

That’s not it. I too meant it as being concerned about their legacy, that they voted to hear or not hear a case based on its merits.

Okay. Had to look up emergency stay. I agree.

I don’t think there’s any distinction. All 9 justices probably believe they *are *judging cases fair-mindedly on their merits – and that their legacies will reflect that. But it just so happens most of them (left and right) are locked into ideologies that dictate what they view as the “merits.”

I find it hard to believe any SCOTUS justice could rule against Congress in these upcoming appeals, but it wouldn’t shock to me to see at least 4 of them think they were being fair-minded in doing so.

More links to Manafort would be nice. The media should be hunting for those.

But I’m not talking about how they will decide the case if it’s brought up, but whether they will vote to hear it in the first place. And I think it will be heard, assuming there is an appeal. Which almost certainly will happen.

I guess Trump was pretty upset with how some anchors on Fox News were backsliding into truth instead of blindly reporting the party line. Barr met with Murdoch, and now Shep Smith has “resigned” from Fox News.

I just can’t believe they’re going all-in on Trump at this point. It’s like handcuffing yourself to a stone when the boat’s taking on water.

Odd. Shep says he requested to leave mid contract and Fox wanted him to stay. I wonder WTH really happened.

Well, you can see what the Attorney General of the United States would have that as part of his job responsibilities. The office of Minister of Propaganda was probably vacant.

My Guess:

  1. Barr met with Murdoch. Told him to get Fox news anchors in line. Tell them to stop being critical of Trump.

  2. The next morning, Murdoch called the main players (Smith among them) and told them exactly how they were supposed to report the news; favorable to Trump. Stop discussing anything negative about Trump.

  3. Smith said “No” Murdoch said “Yes you will” Smith said “Goodbye” Murdoch said “Sad to see you go”

And Fox as a “news” station slides even more into a partisan shit-show.

It follows along with the Republican Party as a whole; Anyone with any sanity who can see the poor decisions of Trump for what they are… Is kicked out, or leaves. Making the party as a whole the “Party of imbeciles”

Giuliani hears the rumble of an approaching bus.

Via a CBS reporter:

Rudy who? Was he the guy that fetched coffee a couple times?

Well, T-rump actually uttered a reasonable statement when he said that he takes photos with everyone and anyone and can’t be expected to remember every last one of them.

But these two picture-wanting sycophants? He knows them.

Sounds about right.

Some have pointed out that if Smith had actually—independently of any ‘you will protect Trump’ directives—asked to leave, then his last week (or more) of shows would have contained content reflecting that fact:

Trump says acting Homeland Security Secretary McAleenan is stepping down

How many is that, now?

Makes a lot of sense, asking to leave your job as a news anchor during what is arguably the story of the decade. Maybe he wanted to spend more time with his family. There’s a lot of that going around about now.

Yeah, it’s obviously something he felt he had to say, and just as obviously not true.

The non-compete agreement he signed may even have specified that he had to claim to have resigned without any pressure to do so. One hopes that, at least, he’s going to get a few million dollars out of it.

Wonder what this means about Paul Ryan’s presence on the FOX board.

I think it’s rather unlikely he’s now trying to prop up Trump.

Has he been outfoxed?

Ryan is a go-along-to-get-along kind of guy. He’s not going to try to tell Lachlan Murdoch anything Lachlan doesn’t want to hear. He’s just going to cash his checks and smile.
