The Trump Impeachment Inquiry

Trumps approval rating drops to 74% among Republicans

That 64% of 29%? That’s the base. 61 million Americans (all ages). The non-base? 268,000,000 Americans.

Can we… at least mentally… stop allowing 61 to dictate to 268 what sort of world we should live in? Can we stop giving the 64% of 29% equal weight of representation over the 100% of 71%?

Who was it who insisted that the Ukrainians didn’t know trump was holding back the monetary aid? So it couldn’t be a quid pro quo. Well they did know, according to testimony revealed so far. I guess that poster isn’t in this thread anymore.

But the quid pro quo doesn’t even fucking matter. This guy used his office to get foreign help to knock out his political opponents. He didn’t care if the “investigation” even had anything to do with actual illegal acts by the Bidens because there IS no evidence of illegality on the Bidens’ part and the idea that there is illegality is a conspiracy theory for fucks’ sake. THAT is what is frightening although the quid pro quo is also disturbing.

Right on! They got lucky in 2016. Doesn’t mean they need to rule this country (forever), nor “rule” our constant daily thoughts.

Fox News (website): Judge Andrew Napolitano: Proof of Trump’s impeachable offenses plain to see

~This is Texas, the lonestar state of Texas. This is the Giant, land I love…~

Texas voters evenly split on impeachment of Donald Trump, UT/TT Poll finds

Look, when half of Texas wants you gone even before the House rolls out its rules of impeachment, you’re in a tough, tough situation as a conservative. One of the more underappreciated stories of the Trump Presidency is the overwhelmingly negative impact his Administration has had on Texas, and more here are realizing it as time passes.

I would say “indefensible”, not “defenseless”.

Yeah, I don’t think Texans who live along the border want their land taken by eminent domain and WALL blocking them off. Never mind the environmental impact and the destruction of natural habitat.

18 minutes of silence.

… And the damage he has done to our business relationships with Mexico ($200 billion a year traded between Texas and Mexico, more than any other state-country trade relationship).

… And the damage done to our renewable energy industry

… And the damage done to our farmers

Probably something like “Listen up- we’re going to sit on our hands and let Russia take over your country unless you can dig up dirt on Biden and find Hillary’s server, capiche?”

Can’t remember where I read it. Maybe it’s in the phone transcript or something. But as I recall, the important thing to Trump was to have Ukraine announce they where starting an investigation.

I mean really, just trying to smear dirt on Biden. That is all.

Yep, all that. But I guess Texas will probably keep voting Republican for the foreseeable future. :smack:

I wish Democrats wouldn’t ignore us/Texas so much. It’s huge so I guess hard to campaign in. But we have a lot of electoral votes they could get if they wouldn’t just assume we’ll go Republican. Get your message out! Point out the harms that Republicans at the state and federal levels have inflicted on us dammit.

Whoops a bit off topic there but I am very upset and pissed off today.

… And the trade war tariffs that will cost each US family about $600 a year.

… and the concentration camps which now line up the Texas/Mexico border.

I think some of this is changing. Dems made significant gains in Tejas last year and the ground operation is ramping up.

Having said that, I still think '20 is too early for a Dem presidential candidate to take the state but if immigration patterns hold steady, '24 is possible.

I don’t get it, though. If Hispanics vote mostly Democratic then why hasn’t Texas already been blue or at least purple? We’ve had a large Hispanic population for forever so why hasn’t it already happened? Gerrymandering?

There are lots of people who claim to be independent, but actually Republican, or are low-information voters who watch Fox News.

Trump’s approval rating has never gone below 35%, at least if you look at running averages. That’s his base.

And keep in mind that voter turnout is typically around 55%. Let’s say 35% of voters support Trump. And what if 70% of Trump supporters turn out to vote, while only 45% of the rest turn out? Then Trump ends up with 46% of the popular vote - same as he got in 2016.

Catholicism is my guess. The abortion thing is too much for many Hispanic women.

Also, don’t forget that “Hispanics” covers a fuckton of people - they shouldn’t all have the same viewpoints, I would hope!

Yeah, I think Nate Silver has commented on Texas likely turning blue soon, but probably not in 2020. Changing demographics, including not just race/ethnicity/national origin but also age, I think.

No, of course they don’t. Some will vote conservative or not vote or whatever. But Where I’m originally from in the valley, Hispanics are a majority minority and most are of Mexican descent. I guess I just don’t see why that population is expected to change Texas to blue if it hasn’t already.
