The Trump Impeachment Inquiry

Poe’s Law?

IIRC, all government employees except the President and Vice-President are forbidden from engaging in any campaign-related political activities in the course of their official duties.

This used to be strictly enforced, Kathleen Sebelius once said something during a public speech on ObamaCare that was interpreted as a political endorsement ( and it was just a sentence or two, I think), and she had to reclassify the entire event as a personal and reimburse the taxpayers for the cost.

Those were the days, huh… I haven’t even seen anyone take that angle.

Here’s what you are failing to understand: Congress is allowed to ask for quid pro quo. They are in charge of the fucking money. The president is not. The President is required to let the money flow, unless he can get Congress to attach a quid pro quo. When the President asked for a quid pro quo for a basic function of his job, he fulfilled the definition of asking for a bribe.

You took this in your high school civics class. Congress controls the purse strings. Trump wasn’t elected king.

Is Devon Nunes wearing Mascara? His lashes look incredibly full! Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

When you’re so busy draining the swamp, who has time to obey ethics laws?

Keneth P. Vogel, NYT:

The polls over the next few weeks will be interesting. The cynic in me thinks that the truth just doesn’t matter. If we don’t see a significant drop in the polls, I think that’s pretty indicative that there is no reaching these people and that we are stuck with them.

On a personal note, I’m fucking exhausted. I haven’t watched every second, but I’ve had it on most of the time to varying levels of paying attention. Two 11-hour days in a row? There’s no time to digest. I’m falling behind in everything else. And a debate tonight too? And another day tomorrow? It’s a firehose of info directly into my face and I’m looking forward to things HOPEFULLY quieting down next week while everyone skedaddles out of town.

Why the fuck are you guys watching live? You really think you’re going to catch some bit that your fav commentators won’t?

Re: Parnas and the company “Fraud Guarantee”

What’s next for Republican con-men? Is someone in the future going to start a company designed to fleece Republican supporters out of their cash, and name it “We Are Stealing Your Money You Stupid Rubes”???

It’s like a gladiator match, no, like a slo-mo multi-truck accident on glare ice that causes a train derailment. You don’t drive away thinking “I’ll see what PBS recaps for me later…”

No, you stand there with your fellow rubberneckers, crack a cold one and say "Hoo-boy, ain’t that sumpin’!’

It’s not going to be that simple. It’s not that unusual for foreign aid to be conditioned on the recipient being certified as having taking specific reform-related actions. So the Pubbies are going to need to provide a list of incidents where foreign aid was (perfectly acceptably) delayed DESPITE the certification having been duly issued by the agency tasked with issuing it.

Don’t jump to conclusions. It might be Devin Moooones…

Mr. Nunes looked udderly distraught after Sondland’s testimony today:

But that’s the thing, it’s mostly not like that. It’s more like watching a guy back out of his driveway, go to work then drive home, all the while waiting for an accident.

Probably on some place like Fenway Park, Camden Yards, Dodger Stadium — take your pick.

He looks positively ruminate.

He’s always been a little mooooooooooooooooooooooooo-dy.

Good thinking. It’s a pretty safe bet that no response would be forthcoming, should it be asked by a Democrat. :dubious:

To be fair, allowing your favorite commentators to get between the original sources and your brain is how a large percentage of the population had ended up where they are.
