The Trump Impeachment Trial

But the Democrats won’t because they just don’t play like that, even when they should.

However, if there is any good to come out of this, it is that Trump has destroyed any potential October surprises. Whoever the Democratic candidate ends up being will have all kinds of mud thrown at them… but investigations? That ship has sailed, sank and is now a thriving coral reef. Trump supporters already think the Democrats are a bunch of crooks so it’s not going to impress them. And Democratic supporters aren’t going to fall for it again.

It is actually a rather intelligent solution, if it weren’t Trump. A bit of shamefaced “Sorry, Mom!” would have some guys falling all over themselves to praise Trump’s pivot to a real Presidency, etc. Get other Republican guys off the hook with the sane crowd. Thing is, don’t think he’d buy it, he’d declare total war on his betrayers. 'Course, he doesn’t get to decide to decline the honor.

Kicker: removal requires two thirds, censure only requires half. Fifty. When removal fails, think we might be able to get fifty votes for a good scolding? Hell, why not? Ain’t gonna make him happy, might even pee real good in McConnell’s Cheerios.

And, Mnuchin’s delivered the motion. So, they gotta at least vote to fuhgedaboutit. Again, fifty.

Confusion to our enemies. Groovy.

It’s troll of Alexander, Sasse, Rubio et al.

They are going to have to take a really hard vote, and live with it.

And well deservedly.

Guys over at Crooks and Liars say that McConnell has to approve the measure, or it doesn’t get to the floor. Let’s see, that, or nail his pecker to a tree…hmmm. Ponder, ponder.

And Butt-Munchin’ Manchin doesn’t know that? Did he put out an ad “Dead dog for sale, ready to be picked up!”? A fog of confusion drifts over this development.

If the house can censure they will do it

A House vote would be completely redundant. They already impeached him, remember? We need something from the Republican-majority Senate.

Good luck with that.

I saw that, and indeed, it was very moving and convincing. Sadly, with the overrated and unfair Iowa caucus last night sucking up all the headline space, it’s a minor story on major sites like CNN, NY Times, NBC, and others that I checked, where it way “below the fold”, if it even appears at all. I encourage all who want to hear a speech for the ages who missed it, to check it out.

In my rose-colored alternate reality, today Trump stands in front of Congress and the American people and crows that he’s the bestest president ever, the greatest gift the nation has ever received, the winningest winner who ever won— all despite the nefarious schemes of Shifty Schiff and the do-nothing Democrats with their scam witch hunt hoax over his perfect phone call… and then tomorrow the Senate overwhelmingly votes to convict on both articles.

I know, I know. Just let me have it, for a little while.

In mine, Trump suffers a traumatic psychotic episode, resulting in slurred speech while shitting and pissing himself, to both horror and adoration of millions of viewers.

In other words, just another Trump public address.

“Ha ha, he really made the Libtards mad when he shat himself! Ten dimensional chess! What a brilliant move!”

Gallup finds Trump’s approval rating at 49%, the stock markets are surging, the Dems in Iowa apparently don’t know how to work the apps on their phones, and the impeachment circus seems about to leave town. I don’t think Trump is the one shitting himself.

Those of us who have actually been paying attention know that Trump’s tax cut blew a huge hole in the federal budget, causing the government to run out of money much quicker than usual and more potential shutdowns throughout the year rather than at the end of October.

[* Skywatcher notes that he intended to type September, not October. Mod rules about anything beyond misspelling prevents us from changing his text.* ]

Like I said, he’s not without his admirers.

That tends to happen when you survey 20% more republicans (527) than democrats (443). Given that fact, this poll actually seems bad for Trump.

Your candidate is air-conducting the Star Spangled Banner, congratulates Kansas for Missouri’s Superbowl win, coronavirus and Brexit are peering over the economy’s shoulder, and the last president who had a lower approval rating at this point in his presidency was Truman–who only managed to win re-election by instituting a new series of campaign rallies across the nation, a strategy Trump won’t be able to avail himself of.

We can go back and forth all day.

Let’s pray the carnival barker is close behind. We’ll need years to clean up the elephants’ mess.

Who is the lady presiding over the final statements of senators? Did Roberts call in sick?

Rand Paul read the whistleblower’s name out on the Senate floor.

How do you or anyone else know that the name he mentioned is the whistleblower? By getting all squicky about a name, people expose that name as the whistleblower.
