What’s the Clarence Darrow quote everyone used after bin Laden’s death? “I’ve never wished a man dead, but I have read some obituaries with great pleasure.” That sums it up for me.
For the hope starved, there’s a chance that Eric Schneiderman (NY AG) will find something in his investigation into the Trump Foundation. He’s the guy who brought down Trump University. Haven’t heard much from that front in awhile, though.
It certainly can’t continue the way it has been spiraling the past week, that’s for sure.
When those kids grew up, they danced in New Jersey on 9/11/01.
As for the OP:
You lost me right there. I thought this was supposed to be “the reality based community”.
Impeachments are 0 for 2 so far. (Johnson, Clinton)
**The Trump Presidency HAS to end with Impeachment… right?
**
Wrong.
Death is too good for the useless orange shit tosser.
What I’m wishing for is an aneurysm that leaves him speechless & incontinent.
Would you settle for drooling and incoherent? Oh, wait, he’s already halfway there…
Trump apparently believes exercise is a bad idea.
The Republicans really ought to change the symbol of their party from the elephant to the lobster, because no matter how uncomfortably hot it becomes, they get used to it and refuse to move. There is little to no chance that they will step up.
What makes you think that, contrary to all evidence so far?
None. If the political landscape has reached the point where voting against impeachment hurts a Republicans election chances, then it has reached the point where it would be an absolute death sentence for the election chances of any Democrat who voted against it.
There is no evidence so far.
To a non-partisan observer, I think it’s somewhat fair that the parties effectively act like prosecution and defense councils. And I also note that, at the end of the day, if you ignore all the grandstanding and political maneuvers, reality almost always ends up winning in the governmental process. Bill Clinton was not ousted for a blowjob, Hilary Clinton was not sentenced to jail time for Benghazi, Nixon was forced from office.
Treason to the nation will not be swallowed by the Republican party. But there does need to be evidence of it, first. Currently, the only evidence we have is that Trump willfully used information spread by the Russians. But it is a reasonable defense to say that this is because he is amoral and stupid, and that he hired a bunch of people with ties to Russia because he ran on a pro-Russia platform. And it is reasonable to say that he is pro-Russia out of fear of WWIII because he’s a 70 year old man who lived through the Cold War and, with the brain of a peanut, cannot escape his fear from that era. And, in fact, we see that his major spending and legal acts are all centred around national defense. In yesterday’s World Risks hearing, they all paused for a minute to note how much attention Trump gives to the topic, basically giving them carte blanche and a black check to do whatever they advise.
The arguments for Trump’s innocence are not flattering, but they are also (probably) more realistic than the traitor of the state theory. For the Republican party to not be particularly swayed by the Russia argument is not blindness nor is it partisan except to the extent that they’re holding to the reasonable defense position rather than whatever their personal beliefs might be. At such a time as the defense position becomes unreasonable, they will move.
Deliberately fucking up our country just to score political points? That’s not a Democratic thing.
Unable to edit, but I would also like to note that there are numerous investigations into Trump and his campaign, the Attorney General was forced to recuse himself, Flynn was fired. None of this would happen without the consent or force of the Republican party - as it is in control of all three branches of government.
While they may be defending Trump, they are doing their due diligence, because there is enough question to merit the effort and enough risk if the Russian angle pans out.
Are there investigations specifically concerning Trump? Not his campaign staff, but him personally?
I sincerely hope I am wrong about what the Republicans are willing to tolerate to keep their power. It would be nice to have a two-party system where you actually have to consider both parties to see which would serve you, and the country, better, and not have to settle on one candidate just because the other one is a dangerous international embarrassment.
But they’d need 2/3rds of both the House and Senate if Trump resisted. That seems . . . unlikely to me.
But that’s what you’re predicting? Really?
I think it’s very possible that at some point Trump himself decides he has had enough.
The way he would spin it would be that he’s already accomplished more than any other president in history and many people have said that he’s the greatest leader in the history of the world, but he has no personal desire to be president, he only did this to help the people and the country and he’s already done that. So now he’s going to go back to running his business and by the way you should know that the new hotel-casino he’s putting up in Miami is going to be the greatest one ever - you can follow the development progress on the new reality TV show “A Casino Rises”, every Wednesday at 8 PM on Fox.
That would be the best possible outcome for the GOP. Pence becomes president and the Trump base is not alienated.
This is not a prediction, but I wouldn’t be at all surprised.
