The TV Series "9 To 5"

I was reading the thead about changes in TV shows and I came upon this show through a link in the Wikipeida.

Anyway I had never heard of the TV series “9 to 5,” based on the movie of the same name.

According to the Wikipedia, there was the first year, a near total redo the third year and even a continuation of the show in first run syndication.

Well anyway I don’t remember ever even hearing about this series much less seeing it.

Anyone else remember it?

I never heard of it either, but those were my prime dating years and I was otherwise occupied…

Didn’t Dolly Parton have something to do with it? That’s all I know.

I didn’t see it, but I remember reading Mad Magazine’s parody, Asinine to Five.

Saw it, but can’t remember anything remarkable about it. The only episode I can recall was when Jane Fonda made a guest appearance as a security guard.

I believe that was the movie.

Nine to Five (TV Series 1982–1988) - IMDb Lasted 5 years and had Sally Struthers in it.

Rachel Dennison, who played Doralee in the TV version, is Dolly Parton’s younger sister. Unfortunately, genetic similarity does not equal either talent or charisma.

Basically the problem with the show was that it captured NONE of the of the talent, cleverness or feminist sensibility that inspired the movie.

I remember the version that was in syndication. But those were my peak TV-watching years. I’d happily spend all day watching TV, despite the fact that none of the shows I watched were any good.

I think it’s interersting that it was on for so long considering no one seems to know much about it.

I remember it. Rita Moreno played the role that Lily Tomlin played in the movie. (That part was later taken over by Sally Struthers.) I think Dolly Parton’s RL sister played her role in the show (as the secretary to the boss), and even Jean Marsh of all people had a part as Roz, the sycophant assistant to the boss.

From what I recall, it wasn’t a train-wreck, but sort of ‘meh.’ Just not good enough (or bad enough) to be memorable. I think the only reason I saw it at all was that it was on right before “St. Elsewhere.”
