You want a couple of more neutral sources, try The Independant (aka the Indescribably boring)
You could look up The Times which is usually more restrained, you will find silly season stories in most papers, but some go further than look for this material, some simply make it up.
In among these are The Sun, and The Mirror which are notorious, The Star does not even call itself a newpaper - it classess itself as ‘entertainment’ however to my mind these are largely harmless as they are consumed by the powerless and ignorant, anyone with anything in their heads understands exactly what these publications represent.
Then we come onto the next level, publications that purport to be factual, and often appear to be so, but are hopelessly partisan such that it gets in the way of their objectivity, such as the Guardian and the Telegraph.
As for The Mail, The Express - only slightly above the low end red tops, you want your reactionary opinions confirmed, those are the ones for you, you surely noted that there was virtually nothing in the way of substance to the stories they published, no named witnessess, no official sources, no regulations quoted, not any mention of any enforcing agency - and yet somehow you give these creedance.
That these ‘stories’ were published at all conveys a message about the standards of these newpapers.
These two papers dress up stories for the little englanders, the ones who want wifey to either be perfect and have it all - but still serve hubby- or stay at home look after the children and keep the immigrants out. This is a business model that works for them, and judging by your credulity, I imagine these organs will be in operation for some time to come.
I sometime dislike the views of certain parts of the political spectrum, however I tend to take them seriously when they can quote facts, case histories, witnesses and trends that have been measured, even those I despise have authority when they construct their cases well.
I happen to be quite a committed trade unionist, on top of which I also do a lot of Safety advice, training and consulting. It turns out that these are the very roles which are often the subject of unjustified and unsubstantiated claims made by the very types of media you have mentioned.
The myths surrounding safety for example are now the stuff of legend, and yet it gets repeated without any critical reasoning by the unthinking herd of sheep prepared to swallow any shit that the little englanders will print in black and white.
Have a look at the following, and see how many of these have been reported as factual in your chosen rags, rather than factually reported.

In the second link there is a list of original articles and the response of HSE to them, the lies and the facts, you will notice that although most newspapers are represented here, certain ones come up far more frequently, and certain ones with a certain political outlook - the little englanders - come up much more frequently, can you you guess which without even opening the link?
I feel I must apolgose to Kal - I had my newspapers mixed up and you are quite right in your assertion about TheDead Diana
