What do you guys think about this potential new legislation in the UK?
I heard about this on the “ChloroForum.”
Some of my fellow “sleepy fetishists” across the pond are upset about this law. We like to see attractive women get chloroformed/KOed by various means, all in a “pure fantasy” type scenario. We have no desire to do such things in real life!
I just think that the idea of banning such “kinky porn” is silly and ineffectual.
I would like to hear what others on this board think about it.
If filming porn that involves drugging women and having sex with them is outlawed, only outlaws will film porn involving drugging women and having sex with them.
Not my cup of tea, but I also watch enough fisting/sounding/watersports porn to have an opinion.
I don’t know what it is about the office of Home Secretary in the British government, but it seems to turn its incumbents, otherwise perfectly nice people I’m sure, into raging authoritarian lunatics. This particular piece of nonsense comes from ex-Home Secretary David Blunkett, who seemed to be channelling Mary Whitehouse and Atilla the Hun during his tenure. Gordon Brown leans a bit that way too, which is maybe why this idiotic bill has made it so far.
I’m across the pond, in 'Merica, but that’s not going to stop me from having an opinion. (Ha! Take that.)
I think this law is a really, really horrible idea. It’s parallel to the whole violence in movies/video games thing that everyone keeps harping on about. Porn is a fantasy, a mental escape. Sure, some of the things you (general you) may watch in a porno may seem like they’d be fun to try - who wouldn’t want to deliver a pizza to a house that’s having an orgy that needs just one more person? - but most people realize that that’s all it is. A fantasy. Not going to happen in real life, and even if it did, it wouldn’t likely play out exactly the way it was portrayed in the porn.
None of my fetishes involve things that are being targeted by the UK government, but I do have friends who are VERY big on tentacle-rape hentai. That’s not automatically an indicator that their next girlfriend will be a 14 year old girl with huge tits who will get a squid shoved into all her orifices. Yes, there are in fact some individuals who can’t (or won’t) draw the line between kinky sexual thoughts and raving psychosis. Just as there are people who can’t watch listen to Marilyn Manson without shooting up a school.
I think the big difference here is this: There are lots of people who listen to “the devil’s music,” or like watching shoot-em-up action flicks, or dig playing Manhunt or Grand Theft Auto. And will admit to it in public. IMHO it’s much arer to see or hear of people fantasizing about rape/murder/whatever, so those who do are cast in a not-so-flattering light already. “Oh, he watches castration porn? Well he obviously has something loose in the head.” Add to that the few kinky folks who DO take things too far, and it gets blown out of proportion. What you end up with is a stupid law like the one in the OP.
There no people in the UK more kinky than its politicians. I find it strange and somewhat counterproductive that they, of all people, would agree to this.
If this is causing harm to the people who “produce” it, then I can see why it should be banned, just as somone can go to jail for accessing child porn even if they never act on their desires. If it is being made by actors and actresses, however, I can’t see any justification for banning it. The legislation would need to discriminate between the two, with the onus on the producer of the images, not the viewer.
