It is even more impressive that most of it is purely the work of the creator, Charlie Brooker. With some input from his wife on one episode and the “The Entire History of You” written solely by Jesse Armstrong (of Peep Show, The thick of it, Mitchell and Webb, and much more)
I think the single writer tradition of UK TV is a strength. I’m not sure how it’ll fare when stretched to a 12 episode run. I like Brooker’s work a lot but I fear he may stretch himself too thinly.
Agreed. Most Netflix shows I’ve tended to binge. But this pretty much requires me to go out into the sunshine and clear my head before tackling the next one.
I did have a long think after watching a few of them. The one where they have their whole lives recorded and can replay moments when they have arguments.
Yes. I did not find it disturbing at all. There must be something wrong with me but I would never give in to the kidnapper’s demands. I just wouldn’t. And I wouldn’t accept any blame for not doing so either. It’s not my fault.
Now the White Bear episode is disturbing to the max and I couldn’t finish watching it.
Yeah. Normally I’d agree but I needed some digestion time for these. Its not a critique, if anything its a testament to the quality of the episodes.
It actually makes me a little nervous about the next six episodes (and the six after these). Each of the already available episodes was a rich exploration of a pretty unique idea that really made me pause and think. How the heck do they whip out twelve more? I think Netflix has a good track record of not ruining franchises that they’ve purchased. Still, its a big task.
Supposedly, and someone correct me if I’m wrong, but Brad Pitt bought the rights to turn that particular episode into a feature film. A very well written episode, I’d love to see it explored a bit deeper on the big screen.
We watched that first episode and my husband refuses to watch any other episode. He was offended at the humiliation and has decided, without watching, that every episode is akin to it.
I told him that couldn’t be the case.
Then again, he binge watches everything. I like to reflect. Ergo, I need to return to Black Mirror on my own, I guess.
I can’t be 100% sure due to the lighting, but I’m fairly certain that the woodland scene where they have victims on crucifixes was shot in my local forest. It’s an area I used to take my kids to all the time as there was a cool rope swing. We haven’t been back there since this show aired!
