The Ultimate Wizardry Archives/Ultima Collection!

My version actually was bug-free. I downloaded all the patches and the game worked great. It sucked, but was smooth.

Read my review of the game. Remember, when I say that it looks as good as any PS2 games, I’m referring to first-generation PS2 games.

By the way, did you guys know that both Wizardry 8 and Ultima IX had the same working subtitle, “Ascension”?

Very cool coincidence. Ultima IX came out first, so Wizardy 8 dropped the subtitle and had none at all(just “Wizardry 8”).

Shame, since Wizardy 8 is the best in its series and Ultima IX is worst in its.

Thanks, Dewey! I saw all those remakes at another site and it had everything from fan patches to games inspired by Ultima. Really neat! The remakes, especially of the earlier ones, interest me.
The Ultima Underworlds are in the Ultimate RPG Archive, but that is EXPENSIVE everywhere I found it. Ebay would be the best bet. I was hesitant with that one because I know little about the Bard’s Tale Series.

As for Ultima Worlds, oh yea. VERY hard to find. I snagged that link quickly though just in case.

WHEEEE!! The Ultimate Wizardry Archives came today!

Happy day!

I installed Wizardry 1 easily, but when I went to create a character, you’re supposed to hit ESC to say you’re through. I did and I never got to the screen that asked if you liked the character you created. :frowning:

The ESC button works fine everywhere else. grumble

I had no problems creating a character in the version of Wizardry I on the Ultimate Archives CD, but I do refuse to play it on principle.

I have an aged and worn 5.25" floppy which has seen almost twenty years of use as my Wizardry I scenario disk. The 5.25" Master disk is a previous version of Wiz I. There are a few visual differences between the two versions, and the most obvious in the CD version is the ability to just press enter to default to fight-fight-fight-parry-parry-parry. (This appeared in all versions of Wizardry II, I think.)

As a result, when I play the CD version, I don’t have the nostalgia. Instead, I drag out the 386 and play on those floppies.

(And I’m ashamed that it took me years to finally realize what “contra-dextra-avenue” meant.)

AAAAGH!! Bleagh. Course the esc button wasn’t working! I forgot that you needed a certain amount of points to qualify for a class!!
Anyway, I guess I’m just too young to understand that sort of nostalgia since I simply played the NES version of the first two wizardries.

I’ll never understand why they moved so far away from the great gameplay in U6/U7 Just because you can do 3d and action doesn’t mean you should.

Wow, I wasn’t even aware they had released the first 2 Wizardries on the NES. How on earth would you take a party out, then restart and recover to double their money, using the NES?

WHEEEE!!

On Monday, I got the Ultima Collection. Course I now want the expansion packs, Ultima Underworlds and Both Worlds of Ultima. Heheh…

As for Wizardry, I’m still making characters as I remembered how incredibly EASY it was to get killed in the dungeon and how easy it was to make powerful characters and get an infinate amount of money! EHEH!! (Patience required though).

Sorry to get off topic, but I just had to comment on this. Do people actually say this, that they “won” something on E-Bay? You do realize that all you won was the right to pay for someone else’s old junk, right?

One person’s junk is another person’s treasure! :b
