The Umpteenth help ID this book thread.

Back when I was in junior high school(late 1960’s) I read a book that I don’t remember the title of, nor the names of the characters.

All the characters were young men of maybe high school age, and I think(not sure) they were Boy Scouts. They traveled back in time and at one point met Teddy Roosevelt. He was there when they used mouth to mouth resuscitation to aid someone who had nearly drowned. I think Teddy said “Bully!”

I read it because it was sci-fi and I read ANYTHING in our school library that had the little spaceship label on the spine. The other girls thought I was weird for reading a “boys” book.

Do I have enough information so that some Doper can come through for me? I

Try Time Machine to the Rescue, by Donald Keith.

Thank you! I remember liking the book, even though it wasn’t a girls book, and wanted to try and find it again.

Time Machine to the Rescue is a sequel to Mutiny in the Time Machine, by the same author. It’s also a good book, and explains who some people are in the one you read.

A friend of mine a little older than you had to get special permission and a note from her parents to check out science fiction from the New York Public Library–“boys’ books,” you know!

How long ago was that? I was born in 1954(just barely) and I never heard of official restrictions by gender. Social, maybe, but not library rules.

The stories were published in Boy’s Life at the time, one of the best things about the magazine.

THAT was where I read them! Been a sucker for time travel since then.

The original stories are available at Google Books. The wiki page has links to them.

Whoa! I checked out the price of the book at www.abebooks.com and the cheapest they had was $42.00, plus shipping and handling. I’d like to read the stories again but I can’t afford that just now.
