We score tests. You know, those tests that kids of various grades are forced to take over a couple of days time, those tests. They’ve been scanned into a computer, and put into a program that lets us score them as they pop up on the screen. For reasons we cannot fathom our site, in NH, is linked to a server in TX. Given how many people are trying to enter scores at the same time, the system often lags, or competely freezes. Several times a day the IT people have everyone log out of the computers while they try to fix things.
So, three of my favorite co-workers and I decided to start a story to write in between the periods when the computers are actually working well. It’s pretty good, we’ve turned the time we were forced to grade math’s stuff, with a QAC (manager-type) who dislikes us into a fairy tale about being tortured by an evil queen, the queen of geometry
We’re entertaining ourselves better than the people who just stare off into space or do crossword puzzles, anyway. The only worisome thing is that maybe guys do mature more slowly than girls(all 4 of us are about 24), since the only guy in our group doesn’t think that there’s a reason not to share the story with other people we work with. Maybe the last day, but let’s not try to get fired for slandering the QAC, huh?
So, what do you do when cirumstances at work keep you from doing what you’re supposed to be doing? You’d think that not being busy would be better than being too busy, but it’s really not.
