The Unofficial Academy Awards Thread

You took the words out of my mouth. Morgan Freeman always transcends the movies he’s in - and everybody knows it. He finally got to work in a movie that is almost is as good as he is.

I like Chirs Rock, but man, tonight he is stunningly boring! I can’t even manage a courtesy smile.

Oh, a viagra joke from Robin Williams. He’s a genius.

Chris Rock has been wildly overrated as a comic. Tonight’s monologue did nothing to change my opinion.

Wow, The Incredibles won. Surprise of the night.

And once again we see the genius in the “NO KEHPS!” philosophy. So far nothing to complain about in the awards they’ve given out. How shocking.

I am no fashionista, but I was actually wondering why more actresses haven’t worn midnight blue gowns in recent years. Tonight, that color made a comeback of sorts, although there’s still way too much black out there. C’mon, people, this isn’t a funeral!

Hillarious. The makeup people don’t even get on stage.

Drew Barrymore’s dye job isn’t that hot either.

What is KEHPS?

Oh, funny. My local news is going to tell us why Oscar winners actually live longer than other actors. I’m sure there’s some good science behind that. Any doctors here?

And he used that “those are your nipples” joke in his Broadway special almost three years ago. I do like Chris Rock, and not just because he’s not Billy Crystal.

What was that about? “Hey, we don’t think you’re important enough for us to wait the extra few seconds it will take for you to get to the stage so you have to accept your award in the aisle. Oh and by the way, you only get 10 seconds to accept your award.”

Yay for The Incredibles and Morgan Freeman.

Chris Rock gives me a headache, I can’t take his voice and every joke is about being black. What was that business about there are only 4 stars? Nice way to alienate most of the room all at one time. And what’s he got against Jude Law? I was not impressed.

That was a pretty amusing joke at Tim Robbins’s expense.

I like Rock’s comments because it’s sort of what we do. I mean, we watch this to make fun of it, not because there’s any celeberity worship going on. He brings some levity, and isn’t taking it so seriously. But, granted, not everything he says is funny.

Timmy looked too wrecked to care

I’ve liked Cate Blanchett in everything I’ve seen her in, so my happiness for her win is more about that than anything else. I didn’t see her in the Aviator, so I can’t say if that role was a good one to give her the Oscar for.

Susan

Yeah, and I liked his earlier “man on the street” interviews. Chris Rock seems to be loosening up and getting comfortable with his role. Maybe he would be best used as a, no pun intended, but color guy for future ceremonies, taking a turn guest-hosting (like Robin Williams this year) or doing a comic feature.

What’s with those weird TV monitors hanging on the ceiling in that fractured wave pattern?

Has anyone seen the winning documentary?

What’s with the blimp shots?
