The Unofficial Academy Awards Thread

Y’know, I really never watch award shows. I happen to be at work and I have a computer, a TV, and security moniters. And I’m paying more attention to the security moniters. The Oscars are boring! Are they always this boring?

I liked the last costume; she had all the diamonds in the Congo around her neck.

And when they said Andrew Lloyd Webber was going to play the piano, was I the only one hoping there would be a bomb under the stool?

As much as I liked looking at Antonio tonight (he didn’t look as greasy as he does some time) , I have to wonder why the original artist didn’t get to sing it? I mean, Penelope Cruz mentioned how incredibly it was sung by the original artist - shouldn’t he be singing it?

I thought Santana overwhelmed Antonio’s voice.

Susan

Yeah, and the writer (or maybe he sang the song too) that they kept flashig to in the audience looked decidedly unhappy.

Lovely how the applause died down when they were showing a non-actor during the memorial, at least they’re being sincere.

I thought Beyonce’s first song was beautiful, the second, not so much. I like her though, so it wouldn’t bother me at all if she sang all night.

So far though, kinda boring. I like Chris Rock. It’s always nice to have someone funny to host a show that has mostly dull awards.

And I’m thrilled to pieces that Morgan Freeman finally got his much-deserved Oscar.

Other than that, I’m just rooting for Swank, and for Martin Scorsese to finally win his best director award.

Heh, in the pre-show when they interviewed Leonardo, he seemed pretty much like he’s just there to sit and clap when Jamie Fox wins. It sucks for him though, I’m sure he did a fabulous job in The Aviator, but there’s no way anyone but Fox is winning Best Actor. I think riots would ensue if he lost this one.

These idiots should knwo not to applaud at all. Should…

I wonder if they’re trying to cut down on the time. For the “minor awards” they can save the time it would take to have the nominees walk to the stage if they’re already there or if they get the award in the aisle. It seems like they spend less time introducing the nominees that way, too.

I don’t agree with it, but I can see why they might try it.

There was a distinct hesitation before anybody clapped for Reagan. I think they all forgot he’d been an actor.

So I guess they wouldn’t put Hunter S. Thompson up there? Too recent?

The funniest moment ever during the memorial was a couple of years ago when Leni Riefenstahl (sp?) died. The Nazi propagandist was put up, and it took everyone a while to realize they weren’t sure about clapping. An awkward moment to say the least.

I don’t think that was Penelope.

Santana is great but whatever he was playing didn’t seem to belong to the same song Antonio was singing. They seemed to be two completely different tempos.
Okay, enough Beyonce! Josh Groban doesn’t need her tagging along.

Why so much Beyonce Knowles? Why Santy, why?

So he’s going by Sean Combs now? Dammit, I just got used to saying “P. Diddy.”

Beyonce again? I’m not complaining, but it’s a bit puzzling. Has this “same singer for multiple songs” happened before? It could be worse, we could be subjected to Groban for all the songs. I’m changing the channel, I can’t stand this guy. Someone tell me when the show is back on.

You should watch them more often, because your remark about Al Pacino’s hair just about knocked me out of my chair, I laughed so hard.

It’s a Beyonce trifecta! She must have offered them a bulk rate - $50,000 for one song, $80,000 for two, $100,000 for three…

Shoot the J! SHOOT IT!

Wow Jorge’s acceptance speech was the best ever.

Prince looked like the kid on the Cracker Jack box.
