The Unofficial Christmas Music Thread.

I’m in the mood for some alternative christmas music.
There is one song, that isn’t really Xmas, but holiday oriented called " Pagans and Christians" ( or something) eating at a table. I can’t find it right now.
But anything that is offbeat and fun.

Christians and Pagans by Dar Williams.

Christmas Rapping by the Waitresses. One of my favorites.

I said it in the Pit thread about Christmas music, but I believe it bears repeating.

Christmas Song by Jethro Tull
I Believe In Father Christmas by ELP
Father Christmas by The Kinks

On Yoolis Night by Anonymous 4

Christmas in Hollis by Run DMC.

One Christmas Catalogue by **Captain Sensible ** always makes me giggle.

If you’re in a very silly mood, how about The twelve days of Christmas by those hoseheads from the Great White North : Bob & Doug MacKenzie? Who can resist “and a beeeeeer in a treeeeeee”.

No Christmas is complete without Cheech & Chong’s Santa Clause and His Old Lady.

It’s a Christmas Eve tradition on the local classic rock station.

As cheesy as it is, I still love the song “She Won’t Be Home” by Erasure.

I don’t know if you can call this one alternative anymore, it seems to have jumped to the mainstream, but Bruce Springsteen’s version of “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town” is my favorite.

Also, “Snoopy’s Christmas” by The Royal Guardsmen, “A Wonderful Christmas Time” by Paul McCartney, and “Jingle Bells” by the Brian Setzer Orchestra are other favorites.

And I thoroughly recommend “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” by Brian Setzer and Ann-Margaret.

Oh, I love that one.

We are going to learn “Adeste Fideles” this year. So I’m in the mood for Latin carols!

Oh, lordy lordy lordy…well, I suppose you did ask for it.

I’m Gonna Spend My Christmas With A Dalek, by the Go-Gos. No, not the Belinda Carlisle Go-Gos, some 1960s British pop group. Be warned: this song is horrifyingly bad.

“The Christmas Boogie” by the Davis Sisters (brief bio on top half of this page ). You can hear a bit of it here.

Hmmm, let’s see…

I suggest
Danielle Dax’s “Blue Christmas”
Cocteau Twins’ “Winter Wonderland”
Mary Margaret O’Hara’s …well, all of her Christmas stuff
“Deck The Halls” from Count Your Blessings (Holly Cole vocal)

(all this stuff is out-of-print)

I have always liked the Muppets “On the First Day of Christmas”
Beaker’s part is wonderful!

Wow. There are no words.
