The Veterans town hall discussion thread - 9.7.16

By “advise”, I mean a tactical suggestion, how to win a dirty game in a real world. And I don’t that much care if she is a warm and wonderful person, I care that she is not Donald Trump. I am still pretty pissed at her and Horndog Bill for that whole “Clintonista”, Republican Lite thing. I have neither forgiven nor forgotten.

But she is not Donald Trump.

And we get reminded of Tailhook:

Donny’s got a loverly bunch or coconuts behind him. True kindred spirits.

Him? Is he the guy who dressed in full uniform to witness at religious gatherings and tell them about how his God was bigger than Allah? Ah! I’ve forgotten his name! A good feeling, but it won’t last.

Yes, they do. You definitely see this when the man is caught in a sex/marital scandal, right?

But beyond that, for politicians who keep their genitals in their pants (or are discreet about it), it’s part and parcel of the process of building yourself as a brand designed to appeal to as many as possible, and if you have honest advisers who do not fear talking to you, they could very well give that advice.

LAUER: Let me ask you something ahead of time that I’ll ask Mr. Trump in a half an hour. To the best of your ability tonight, can we talk about your qualities and your qualifications to be commander-in-chief and not use this as an opportunity to attack Mr. Trump, all right? And I’ll ask him the exact same thing.

LAUER: You heard me say to Mrs. Clinton, Secretary Clinton, and it didn’t completely work out toward the end there, as much as possible I’d like you to tell our veterans and our people at home why you are prepared for the role of commander-in-chief and try to keep the attacks to a minimum. We’ve had a year of that and maybe 60 more days of it.

TRUMP: To a minimum, absolutely.

LAUER: OK, perfect. To a minimum. I guess that’s a question of definition.

In addition to the non-neutral sniping about Clinton, Lauer lied about asking Trump the ‘exact same thing.’

Scum. I’m getting skeeved about the “horserace” promotion.

I notice that MSNBC has stopped running Chris Hayes at 11:00 and put Brian Williams in there. It was too good to last. Williams is the ultimate horserace caller, and it’s a real loss. He’s a liar too. They will be grading Trump on the curve for two months, and pretending there’s nothing wrong. They’ll cover the campaigns in separate segments so that they can criticize Hillary without referring to the fact that her opponent is a fascist. It’s a real wow moment.

We can keep posting about Trump’s falsehoods – we could probably produce them as a compendium.

In this election, I am convinced that truth probably doesn’t matter all that much, and it’s not like his falsehoods are being completely ignored. WaPo, NY Times, and even CNN have gotten out their fact checkers. Trump continues on unfazed.

The problem is that the average voter is no longer really factoring in these sorts of things the way that most straight dopers typically do. Yes, we all see how much of a lying buffoon Trump is – but does the rest of the country see it that way.

Unfortunately, I am afraid that the answer is no. This election is going to come down to the perceptions of largely uninformed white middle class voters who typically watch The Voice, Survivor, and Pawn Stars. America is losing itself and its place in the world, owing largely to dumber than pig shit voters.

While I agree with you 100% on this, I’ll point out that Hillary herself realizes she has a problem with being perceived as cold.

While I agree that Clinton gets far more of this because woman, I also remember everyone telling “plank of wood” Gore to loosen up.

Yeah, as in cold-blooded.
