The Voice - Season 4

I’m not a Sarah fan, but I liked her performance tonight more than any other except for her blind audition. I didn’t like those soft songs where she goes off-key for style (?).

I really liked Michelle’s performance tonight. It really resonated with me.

I was wondering how Judith would top her previous performances, and she didn’t. Originally, I missed it live, so I only saw the song clip. Once I saw the song in the whole context of the show, I liked it a lot more. It was really touching with the whole story line added to it.

Danielle’s song choice seemed a little monotonous to me, but she sang it well. I really like her.

Sasha looked happy when she was singing so that made it different. I like her.

Amber was OK. In a way, it was a good song choice because it was a fun song, but there wasn’t a real moment where she made an impression.

The Swon Brothers were OK too. Blake had that frowny face on again in their rehearsal.

Holly’s song choice was surprising. It was a full-on Christian song. She did a good job with it, but there wasn’t a story for her to work with, so it wasn’t as inspiring as her other performances. I’m wondering how Irishman felt about that because he said that he doesn’t like religious songs, and this one was about as religious as they get.

I like Kris, but he sounds the same every week. Going falsetto to full voice over and over again gets old after a while.

Hopefully, Josiah is finally gone this week. His song choice was poor. His voice was OK, but he didn’t have much to go on.

Looking at the rest of the competition, I’m thinking that the other person eliminated will be Kris.

So far for two weeks in a row the person I liked the least has been eliminated. Makes me feel good about my judgments.

Too bad about Josiah. I think with a different song he might have been saved.

Wow. Looks like the new coaches’ teams will be wiped out first. I don’t really know what that means. Maybe that Adam and Blake have both more coaching savvy and established fan bases among show voters? I thought Shakira had a good team though.

Missed it Monday but caught up yesterday.

I thougth Michelle was tops, she didn’t have the soft drop outs she has had and she really delivered.

I loved Sasha’s performance. Great song, fun for her.

Danielle was as good as expected, keeps steadily delivering. Perhaps not the tops, but very good.

Judith did okay. She had a decent performance, it just wasn’t quite what I’ve seen from her, and it didn’t quite work for me. But it was a fun side.

Amber was pretty good.

Sarah - very different type of song, a lot of energy and power, interesting with the grit, but the lilts still annoy me. I think I’m predisposed against her now.

The Swon Brothers - another solid, fun, energetic performance. They’re good, and probably can make a career from their performance and exposure so far, regardless of going any further.

Holly - she sang very well, and she really connected with the song. But I despised the song choice.

Kris - he sounds good, had some fun, but just isn’t popping.

Josiah - decent song for him, still had too much smirkage going on.

Not surprised it was Josiah and Kris. Once Amber was saved, I didn’t really care, though I hope Holly picks a different direction so I might root for her again.

What the hell was Shakira going on about, with her “Coldplay are so amazing with their precise choices” blah blah blah? This is Coldplay? U2 version 2?

Interesting speculation.

Given the performances we’ve seen, the eliminations have tracked pretty well. If things continue in the same trend, I expect Michelle and Sasha to hold on, so Usher and Shakira will each have one competitor. That means Blake and Adam will have to take the hits.

I think Blake will lose Holly and then the Swon Brothers, with Danielle lasting till the finals.

Adam’s is a tougher call, because apparently people see things in Sarah that I don’t. I’d have her gone, then probably Amber, with Judith till the final four. But America may hold Sarah longer.

I’m thinking right now the final three will be Danielle, Judith, Sasha. But we’ve seen upsets before. Michelle could fight her way in. Amber is very good. The Swons are steady performers, but I don’t think they’ll make it much longer. I want to like Holly (even after this last song) but I think she’s getting lost behind the Sasha/Judith and Danielle/Amber comparisons.

I think she was groping for a nice way of saying she didn’t like the rendition.

Sounded genuine to me. Maybe she actually likes Coldplay. I know it may sound crazy, but there are few of us around who do.

Irishman, any particular reason you despise religious songs? Or is that getting into GD territory?

I’m not saying Coldplay is bad. But she seemed all caught up in how original they are, how creative, but I’m not the only person who, when I first heard them, thought they were the latest song by U2.

Shakira has made similar comments about other performances not measuring up, and how the originals are so iconic and whatnot, perhaps it’s just her way of trying to say “you didn’t measure up”. But to me it just comes off wrong. There’s nothing magical about Coldplay, or U2 for that matter, or even Mariah Carey or Adele for that matter. Sure, they are talented, but that shouldn’t put their songs off limits, just means anyone attempting them has to have vocal ability, and perhaps needs to spin it different.

Heck, I observed that Sasha took one of my favorite songs and butchered it, but did it without proclaiming Ann Wilson is so iconic nobody should try a Heart song.

[/QUOTE]

Yes, it’s really GD territory. Suffice it to say that due to my personal interactions with religion and christianity, I find the in-your-faceness of these songs and the attitude they express (and the comments made by the hosts) to be annoying. I realize it’s a personal matter.

Sorry, didn’t mean to be nosy, I just asked because I honestly couldn’t think of an entire genre that I hated. Anyway, I understand what you’re saying.

As for me, I’m a little bit surprised I’m enjoying the show with all the country being sung, but then a lot of it seems like country/pop or country/rock crossover music, which really helps (me anyway).

If I were Blake I’d be ecstatic that country was making as good a showing, if not better, than pop and rock on the show.

Judith Hill - #ThatPower - Her voice was wonderful, but that’s the only thing I liked about the song. The music, the arrangement, everything else failed in my opinion. I had to disregard everything else and just focus on her voice in order to make it through the song without being bored to death.

Sasha Allen - Without You - Little bit over the top, but other than that I thought it was a great performance. She had great control over her voice.

Danielle - In my opinion 10/10. Great singing, great music.

Last night’s performances overall were pretty good. The only one that stank IMO was Sarah doing “Somebody That I Used To Know”. I’m just not a fan of her thing, and she was doing it all over that song.

I’m torn for best performance. Michelle’s song had me cheering at the end - in my living room alone, cheering out loud. Amber had a stellar rendition of “Skyfall”. Even Shakira had to say it lived up to Adele. Plus, the hair really sold it.

I agree with Nobody about Judith’s song - “Hashtag That Power”. Maybe there are plenty of people in the audience who like that song, but it wasn’t a great choice for me. She’s got a great voice, but that song wasn’t “in my wheelhouse”.

Sasha Allen was pretty good, but there were a couple elements where something about the tone bothered me. Still, she was having fun.

Danielle had another crystal clear delivery, though I can’t say I liked the song choice. That, and the “Grandpa” delivered in a talky tone.

The Swon Brothers were pretty good with their rendition of “Seven Bridges Road”. Nice harmonies, though it did seem in the opening that the backing voices were behind.

Holly had a fabulous performance, she was rocking and having fun, and the big note near the end really worked, too. Probably the #3 performance of the night, IMO.

For who to go home off those performances, I’d say Sarah and Judith. Given Judith’s track record, I’d say Sarah and The Swon Brothers. I hope Holly gets rewarded by America for that effort. She earned a save.

Damn, it’s getting tough to decide who not to keep.

I agree with everything in Irishman’s post. I’ll add to the part about not liking the song choice for Danielle that I’m really hoping that Blake doesn’t continue to stick her with lousy song choices that she has to overcome. Either that, or America keeps choosing her because they see that. I still believe, maybe in some small way, that Blake isn’t squarely in Danielle’s corner, if only subconsciously or covertly.

For the bottom two, I’d go with the Swon Brothers and Sarah. Holly, though I liked her, is my third choice.

I’m glad that I wasn’t the only person to notice that the background singers were lagging way behind in the Swon Brothers’ song. If it was more uniform, I’d think it was planned, but it was inconsistent.

I also literally cheered for Michelle and Amber, who I really didn’t like in the beginning. Amber really has grown and nailed that song. It had a sticky moment or two, but it was really good.

It really is getting hard to pick the bottom people at this point.

Aaaaand The Voice is now 2/3rds country singers. I was happy to see Sarah go home, but was hoping for at least one country act to say bye-bye. Sigh… Judith was arguably the most professional, reliable, and mature “artist” on the show, and deserved at least a top 4 spot.

I guess it’s time to accept the inevitable triumph of Danielle, who I’m convinced is a country-singing robot.

Blake keeps giving her songs that he likes, and ones he wants her to rejuvenate and make modern.

Overall she’s been consistently amazing. But last night’s performance was a risk, and apparently America didn’t vote on her record but on that round. For whatever reason, what she did last night didn’t work.

Sucks that Adam lost 2 in one night, and Blake still has all three. I kinda liked what the Swon Brothers did, and was pleased Holly was rewarded, and expected Danielle to be safe, but still.

Interestingly, tonight during her duet she sounded flat. I was surprised.

Amber and Holly had a great duet. Michelle and Judith had a pretty good one. Even Sasha and the Swons were pretty good. Sarah didn’t totally tank that duet, but Danielle was surprisingly off pitch.

I was surprised Judith left last night, but not Sarah. I guess Judith’s song choice really was that bad.

Sasha needs to step it up.

Amber gets better and better every week. Maybe she and Michelle at the end?

I still think Danielle is going to beat out Holly. Danielle is just so smooth. Of course better songs for her would only make that stronger. Holly had a great performance, but I think she’s still a step behind Danielle’s consistency.

Sasha does need to step it up. Michelle and Amber both upped their games, and have done so fairly consistently. Sasha has some great tones and control, but has had some bumps.

The Swons are doing good, but they just don’t seem like the victors to me. But what do I know, I didn’t peg Jermaine to win.

However, I did call that off those performances it would be Sarah and Judith, and America agreed. So I’m doing something right.

Wiki has the schedule with Top 6 next week, Top 4 the following week, then Top 3 for Finals. As of right now, I think the Top 3 will be Danielle, Michelle, and Amber. Sasha can get there, but I will be surprised if the Swons do. I think Holly will get beat before then.

I’m going to make a wild prediction based only on past history and my gut, without knowing what songs they’re doing next. I think next week’s elimination will be Sasha and Holly. I will not be surprised to be wrong. Certainly song choice and performances can change the outcome.

Judith being beat was a real shocker. Nobody is safe, everyone must connect with the audience on their performance. If Sasha is her best, she’ll be in the top 4. If not, the Swons could upset. It would be a real shocker to see Danielle eliminated.

I’d like to see the Swon Brothers win, both because it would be great to see a duo go all the way, and because they’re constantly good performers (although I didn’t like the bluegrass they put in “7 Bridges Road”).

Blech that “Grandpa” song was awful, a cheesy mix of propaganda and 50’s nostalgia. Still, I like Danielle.

Sasha was decent and has an outside chance of winning but, more than the others, song choice is critical.

Terrific cover of Skyfall by Amber. Just the right amount of power…it would be easy over-do that song.

The Swon Bros, Holly and Michelle can all bugger off now.

Well, I guess this is a country-dominated show due to the voting constituencies or something.

I couldn’t even get through to vote this week, not sure why; but apparently somebody who agrees with **Irishman **did.
