The Voice: Season 6 thread

Guess I’ll start the thread. What did you think of the first nights auditions?

Biff Gore (the church singer) was really good with that Sam Cooke song. I think he made a mistake picking Usher. Usher seemed very reluctant to push his button. There seemed to be something about the performance Usher wasn’t sure about.

The duo Dawn & Hawkes reminded me of Simon and Garfunkel. really nice

Bria Kelly was by far tonights highlight. She killed that James Taylor song, Steamroller Blues.

Recap of tonight. Nice cheat sheet for the singer’s names.

I thought it was pretty good. I pretty much agreed with the chair turns, or lack thereof. I only had two minor disagreements.

It seems if anybody says they were in a boy band then it guarantees no chairs will turn. I thought Leo Gallo should have had one chair turn.

And Jake sort of had a lounge singer quality to me so I was a little surprised they turned around, but I guess it’s something easy to fix.

Anyway, good start and I eagerly await tomorrow.

I’m a little puzzled by your comment. None of the coaches knew that Leo Gallo was in a boy band. They’re only listening to his voice. I think he picked a bad song to shine on vocally. It’s more of a dance song and a fun song.

I’m really liking this season. For some reason, I feel like the talent so far has been better than last season, although it’s hard to tell. I liked Christina Grimme a lot. But it’s hard to know if she just mastered that one song.

I thought Jake Worthington did a great job. I’m really liking him. His song choice was in direct contrast to last season’s song choice. By itself, it’s not as impressive as it was with the last season’s performance still in my head.

I can’t believe chairs turned for that girl that sang True Colors. She was way too tentative and hesitant. You need confidence to sing a Cyndi Lauper song. She’s very young, Shakira has a big challenge.

All I meant was that this is the second or third time someone has said in their intro that they were part of a boy band, and then they go sing and no chairs turn around.

I was wondering what the heck you were talking about, but I just saw the performance now and realized you must be on the east coast and saw it 3 hours before I did.

She pretty much butchered True Colors IMHO. It’s one of my top 20 hits from the 80’s that I love. I listen to 12 Deadly Sins every month. Love Cyndi Lauper.

I wasn’t all that impressed with the second night. A couple singers were ok, but I doubt they’ll get past the first battle round. Noah Lis singing Me and Mrs Jones was the highlight for me tonight. I like Noah’s classic Tony Bennet style. But I bet they make him sing a pop song in the battle round. That’ll put him at a disadvantage.

2nd night Recap

I think the reason for that is that the guys who were in a boy band spent more concentration on dancing than singing. Even with this guy, Carson told him that the coaches couldn’t hear his dancing and the guy said he wouldn’t be dancing too much. But the coaches commented that he must have been dancing because of his breath control.

I agree about the girl who did the Cyndi Lauper song. She looked so frightened. Maybe it didn’t come across as much in her singing but it was all over her face.

I agree that tonight wasn’t as good as last night. I also find it annoying that after every single audition there’s a commercial.

I was surprised when Adam and Blake turned around for Noah. I thought his voice was too high for that song, and I was really surprised when Blake said he sounded too polished. I totally agreed with Adam that he needed polishing. I think he chose Blake because Blake said what he wanted to hear, whereas Adam said what he needed to hear.

I still agree about the girl who sang the Cyndi Lauper song but I was mixing up the face with the girl who sang Titanium.

Leo Gallo? I thought he was Leo Callo.

The Website I got his name from is no longer giving me access, but this Website also gives it as Leo Gallo.

EXACTLY what my girlfriend said.

OK, tonight Oregon’s NBC affiliate showed the Blazers vs Lakers. Dumb question, I know, but please tell me it all NBC stations preempted The Voice for the basketball game.

Nope. I saw The Voice in central Illinois.

Son of a bitch. Now I gotta see if I can watch it on NBC.com or Hulu or somewhere.

I was wondering why Nobody (both the person and the generality) was (not) posting about The Voice last night. I wasn’t as impressed as I was with last Monday’s show. But I’ll hold off on my comments until other people have seen it.

OK, finished watching it on NBC.com. Here are my worthless opinions.

Ryan - “Lights” - His voice was too high for my taste and I would have liked for him to hold his notes a little bit longer.

Deshawn - “Twistin’ the night away” - I thought he was very good. I’m surprised he only got one turn. But then, one turn is all you need.

Sam - “Royals” - First, I’m surprised by the popularity of this song. I don’t think it’s a bad song, to me, it’s just there. Anyway, about Sam. Crying about possibly having to be a librarian? WTF? I love libraries. I think a librarian would be a great career. But getting to her voice. Uhg, another “quirky” one.

Brendon - forgot the song - I thought he was great. I was really shocked by no turns. And Usher says he couldn’t tell who he was? To me who an artist is and how well they sing are two different things, and there’s time to develop an identity.

Brothers Walker - “Keep me in Mind” - First, way too much back story. I did really enjoy their performance however.

Clarissa - “Zombie” - I love that song so I was worried, but she was pretty good at it.

Robert - “The Weight” - There was something about his voice I didn’t like but couldn’t articulate. My wife said it was nasally and then Blake said the same thing.

Mellisa - “If I Ain’t Got You” - I was busy doing something else, so I didn’t pay much attention, or replay her performance, but I liked what I did hear.

Patrick - “Can’t See You” - I loved his gravely voice. And the criticism of no solid direction? The hell?

Alison - “Where the Boys Are” - I was crazy about her performance. I think the judges were much too picky.

Sisaundra - “Aint no Way” - Obvious ringer.

I’m watching the new season, enjoying things so far. I can see most of the judge’s calls, the pitchy bits and stuff. There were one or two (can’t remember now) that could have gotten picked but didn’t for whatever whim.

I liked the Titanium and True Colors performances.
